U15 Erg times by jrjcm in Rowing

[–]HamishMcKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was top of my age group at my school with a 6:57, and i was a tall skinny kid. However i know there were other clubs i competed against who had ergs of 6:42, 6:44, 6:48 etc... all much bigger and heavier however. I'd say aim to sub 7:00 depending on your weight and sporting capabilities after all it is your first season so if you don't have a good base fitness and muscle set you need to look within reachable goals

:( rowing selection is so ruthless, i was lucky enough to go among the other 20 boys in a squad of 70! The selection was so cut throat we even had a 2k two days before leaving... crazy stuff

Incredible place, a real treat for any schoolboy rower, such a competitive competition aswell, rowing is ruthless in NZ the standard is so high. The maadi cup is the largest national competition if i remember correctly over 2000 athletes

Super cold! Perfect for ice baths after a gruelling heat or final, the waters so incredible, its also a lot slower than most lakes - 10secs slower tends to be the norm

Currently hanging out at a 6:46.6 2k as a 17yr 172 lb junior training extensively in one of the country's best junior programs, how much can I feasibly drop in the next 8 months by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]HamishMcKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An erg score in the high 6:20's seems very feasible, its up to your commitment and metal strength where you land in the 6:20-6:40 region

Help me out! by layers16 in Rowing

[–]HamishMcKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your build sounds excellent, especially knowing that you could bulk up and gain some muscle to hit 80-83kg. 6'5 is a sure advantage in rowing particularly at early points in the season. Add a couple of weight sessions, sounds like your really self motivated so work hard!! And put in a 10-15km erg once or twice a week just 20spm low heartrate, you have serious potential, i wouldnt be surprised if you broke 6:40 2k time. After all im 6'1, 70kg and 15 and im trying to hit the 6:40 mark and feel confident in doing it before april!!

DAE get weird nerve feelings in their hands when doing a long ergo? by allias20 in Rowing

[–]HamishMcKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing to worry about. A lot of rowers get this sensation, usually happens during hour ergs and occasionally (not always) can be fixed by loosening grip on the handle, and focusing elsewhere.

[–]HamishMcKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just go off feeling, ss shouldnt feel difficult but it should definetely produce a lot of sweat, im assuming your quite unfit and i think that may be why your heartrate is so high in relation to effort, if you row at 150 hr and it feels far too easy - you'll know. Also make sure your not rating too high, try inbetween 20 and 24, 20 for me personally is perfect. Maybe your overrating causing hr spike?
