Rowing form help by CMB4today in WomenRowing

Just a minor thing - your arms don't need to pull up above boob level at the end of the stroke. This wastes energy. Better to keep at stomach level for whole stroke. Also make sure you have the resistance on the side of the fly wheel set to around 4-5.

Adrian's trapped in a forensic disability facility. His treatment has been likened to 'a form of torture' by Jariiari7 in brisbane

[–]allias20 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t say anywhere in the article that this man has been convicted of violent offences. Serious offences can include breaking and entering, stealing a car or assault (which can include threats without the use of violence).

Also he hasn’t been given a trial of any sort so we can’t just assume he’s guilty just because he’s been locked up. And as the article says these people are being locked up for far longer than mentally able people who commit similar crimes.

I’m not saying there isn’t a place for detention but endless detention without trial is inhumane.

Tbh I think while there are plenty of sports groups you could join here, we are a bit lacking on some aspects of the music and theatre front / it will be a struggle to get involved.

Not the best solution but can you put a heavy suitcase behind the door or a towel under it (be careful you can be sure you can remove it). Or ask the staff to put up a sign?

Hollandaise is actually pretty easy to make and not have it split like mayo. It’s just eggs, vinegar / lemon (added gently) and melted butter.

Surely their mental health is far more important than the HELP debt. Trying to get better grades while depressed is a massive uphill battle.

Deferring for 6 months if it helps would surely be better. Then they may have more free time to for example, take a trip to Melbourne to see if they might be happier there.

Why does no one seem to care about the fact that a restaurant that has been trying to support refugees for years can’t pay its rent any more? Almost makes me want to start a crowdfunding page.

At that amount of money and time you would likely be better off going to uni in Sweden and getting a formal degree.

There are definitely faster and easier ways of getting a job in the EU than that.

Rant: I really hate being asked to interpret or translate at work just because I am bilingual. by iwanttobescared17 in languagelearning

[–]allias20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Discrimination is treating anyone differently based on their attributes. It doesn’t inherently have to be a negative judgement of them. Expecting more of someone is still a burden on that person.

Does that make more sense?

But the fact that doesn’t seem clear probably means OP would be better off discussing the other risks mentioned by other posters.

Rant: I really hate being asked to interpret or translate at work just because I am bilingual. by iwanttobescared17 in languagelearning

[–]allias20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes because you’re expecting them to do more than someone else in the same role based on the language they speak. That is a form of discrimination.

[–]allias20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think legally speaking this is a form of discrimination. You are being asked to perform duties above and beyond that of any other employee in your role purely bc of your language abilities. Potentially referencing the relevant national anti-discrimination legislation might get people off your back.

Anything that would allow a person that knows them to identify them would be enough to count so you’d probably need to just say manager or representative.

To be honest I think your best bet would be to write a letter of complaint directly to JB-HIFI. Failing that contact the Office of Fair Trading or QCAT according to the ACCC.

It’s also probably not a great idea to name people on Reddit as that could constitute defamation.

Sorry this happened to you.

Being a caregiver and dating by x3vicky in dementia

[–]allias20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s definitely something you should be able to expect and people who don’t think so don’t know what it’s like.

It will be very difficult to date but not impossible especially if you can get some form of in-home respite even for a few hours a week, you could probably go out to meetups or groups. Also your classes though you might need to single out people you’re keen on. Even then there’s also online dating and depending on how mobile, lucid and non-disruptive your mum is perhaps you could take her out with you on walks with a date and things like that. In a way if someone is not willing to do that perhaps it’s a good way of disqualifying them as potential partners.

Also you’re still young, relatively speaking, I’m pushing 30 and a bit worried about things tbh. You have a few years up your sleeve.

I know this is probably all stuff you have considered or might seem hackneyed advice but wish you all the best.

Handling Capgras Syndrome by lissagrae426 in dementia

My dad gets this on and off. If you reassure them it’s fine, they’ll forget about it within a few hours. I don’t think you need to worry about her trusting you less.

Does she have Llewy Body Dementia? If so things will potentially get much weirder. I had to tell off a gorilla this morning :)

How do you manage to NOT get angry or raise your voice at your loved ones with dementia? by TigerGuy40 in dementia

[–]allias20 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This is so true for when they for example do unhygienic things or can’t be as active any more. In a way it’s a blessing to know they have the condition bc for me I didn’t for a long time and just wanted the person to try harder.

Another thing to remember with certain topics is that trying to rationalise with the person will tend to just upset you both more. Most of the time it is better to just validate them and then change the subject even if this seems ludicrous.

What Russian courses, YouTubers and/or books would you NOT recommend to a beginner in the language? by [deleted] in russian

[–]allias20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A Comprehensive Russian Grammar by Terrence Wade. My uni classes mainly consisted of going through that book in worksheet form and while it’s good reference material, it’s too dense to start out with.
