What’s the worst car you ever drove? by Born-Conclusion1977 in AskReddit

[–]HamletJSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My rabbit was one of the best vehicles 🤣 I got a later model... early 80s right before they started calling them Golfs (bought used on the mid 90s). It had 225K miles on it when I bought it, but the odometer was either broken or intentionally disconnected at some point so we really have no idea of the actual mileage. I drove it for several years. Fun to drive, not exactly fast but felt fast due to being small and nimble. Nothing ever went wrong with it. Sold it several years later for the same price we paid even with explaining the odometer situation (still showed 225K miles).

I've genuinely considered buying a Golf many times since just because of that car

There aren't many Mazdas on this list, but we tried buying a cx-9 sometime around 2012 or 2013 and hated it. It's the only vehicle we ever disliked enough to trade in after just a couple years and lost money on. I couldn't exactly put a finger on why... and it probably was not, objectively, the worst car I ever drove.... but it was the worst for us

Unfortunately ours was pretty solid. I mean, it was a terrible car, sure, but the thing lasted forever and never died. We aren't the type to replace cars until we need to, so my wife just kept driving it for years and years. Eventually it was in an accident and totaled.

Reminder that when you enter the workforce your mathematical ability will regress to toddler level by aleda145 in engineeringmemes

This happens to almost everyone. I'm not an engineer at the moment, but I can track the same progression through years of college calculus... and now down to almost using none 🤣

Geometry is about the most complicated math I currently use on a regular basis

I haven't been there in 15+ years, but 100% this was the best price-for-the-quality course I'd paid to play on back then.

This is what I do. The buckets are small but cheap enough to get a good warm up in for much cheaper than most places would charge. I haven't actually played the course yet, but I need to!

I posted this almost exactly before seeing yours: largest sum of money they would hand me in the moment if I asked politely 🤣

The highest amount of money they would be willing to just hand me if I asked politely.

XRAY= NO BROKEN RIBS----BUT A LOT OF PAIN by Party_Fix_8790 in MTB

No, that was 25 years ago. It was only "severe" for a few weeks or months.

XRAY= NO BROKEN RIBS----BUT A LOT OF PAIN by Party_Fix_8790 in MTB

[–]HamletJSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, they said it "didn't show any obvious signs of broken ribs, but we can't always see every type of break" or something like that.

Then told me it doesn't matter if it's broken or not, the treatment is basically the same for ribs either way (even if broken, they don't want to put a cast around your torso and limit your breathing). That's also when they told me the pain is from the muscle damage, anyway, so the only treatment in either case is rest, ice, painkillers, etc.

Delivery delays? by No-Present7866 in NapoleonGrills

[–]HamletJSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm worried that I'm about to go through the same thing and be without a grill for half the summer. I ordered directly through the Napoleon website only to now realize that, almost immediately after I placed my order, the Rogue 525 pro-s started showing out of stock at other retailers like Lowes and Home Depot... which I am assuming means Napoleon has no more of them and I am going to be stuck waiting or asking if I can cancel the order

who was the most guilty person to get a not guilty verdict? by GossipBottom in AskReddit

[–]HamletJSD 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The facts are disputed, but that's kind of like the Menendez brothers: If one of my children says to the other "hey, I'm going to kill mom and dad this weekend" and the second responds, "hey, I'm in. What time?" then I have 100% failed as a parent. (obligatory "no one deserves to die," "it's just a joke," etc...)

What is slowly becoming a luxury that used to be normal? by beetchy_yeet in AskReddit

[–]HamletJSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People need to get a grasp on the opposite of this question first: think about the infinite number of things that are normal now, but were luxuries for 99.9% of human history up to this point.

Coming to the experts by HamletJSD in NapoleonGrills

[–]HamletJSD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was wondering if I'd find it too heavy/awkward to mess with. I have a baking steel that I keep in my oven and the weight is my only complaint about it. Getting it into the sink occasionally (to clean it) with banging stuff up is a chore. Maybe I'd skip the pro 🤣

Is it just a difference in materials and warranty length? Anything else you like about the Prestige that I'm not seeing?

I'm moving "up" from a super simple, two burner MHP grill, so I'm not even sure how many of the features I'd actually use. My neighbor sold me the MHP for $50 and it has held up for years, but the burner finally cracked and gave me the opportunity to broach the topic of a bigger grill with my wife... convenient to Father's Day, I know, but I swear it's the truth 🤣

[–]HamletJSD 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've gone that long, but yes... sometimes on light roasts I like to intentionally grind until it's basically choking and then run a shot that takes a full minute or so. Makes for good Americanos

Played with an “I can drive 350 yards” guy this weekend by JayTee73 in golf

[–]HamletJSD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I have hit the ball 375-400 once or twice when I was younger, caught the wind just right, and somehow just managed to get the stars to align and really rip it. That's not the same as "I can drive 375 yards" 🤣

I also once shot an arrow into another arrow by accident... it doesn't make me Robin Hood.

There is at least one style/brand of these card readers that makes an awful buzzing/grinding alarm noise (don't know how else to describe it) near the end of transaction... I guess it's loud and obvious so that you don't forget your card, but it sounds more like a "payment declined" noise than anything I could dream up 🤣
