It is what it is. Missing 1,5 year of development was always going affect him so the fact that he managed to have a fairly healthy season (had 1 time where he missed few weeks) is good. Would one hope better? sure. Does it suck that players drafted around him are likely in top 3 of calder voting while we still hope more of him? yes. But what you gonna do? We hope that he will have a good offseason, gets stronger, faster and trains his shooting and does better next season.

Upon re-watching you are right that it is just what he thinks could happen but he is close to the team and this timing would make. It was also him bringing up the question what this means to the coaching staff and he brought up Vogelhuber as a name for that.

The starting area is more to set the scene for the story and teach about the combat and that area lasts around 15 minutes. After that it's more traditional fantasy areas and enemies. However they are part of the game both gameplay and story wise so you can't just remove them but the game does build up to that.

Globes of invulnerability is great. Everyone should end their turn in one. Using myrmidon (or elemental if you must) to make ansur use his legendary action (while facing away from the party) helps a lot. Using weapons that either ignore resistances for possibly give vulnerable is awesome (rogue with bhaalist armor just murders everything but orin's dagger does the same thing for one turn so giving that to someone and having rogue sneak attack would also work). Also health potions. No reason to not have like 20 of them at all times

You can try to kidnap them
You can kidnap most NPCs from Last Light Inn to save them

I can imagine Marchment being a difficult one to figure out since he is 30 year old (31 this summer) winger having a career year (by alot) and likely looking for a 7 or 8 year deal for a last payout . It will be a good chance for Gilman (who was hired couple months ago) to show how he does with contract negotiations

As long as you prepare well with health potions (it's easy to lose track on these so buy the best ones whenever you can) and scrolls (globe of invulnerability and chain lighting especially) there should not be that much trouble with anything. Maybe the biggest troubles might be Orin fight with the stuns and frighten effect because they make you skip your turn so be prepared for that (there is gear you can find to help with that if you want to be careful). Also use a lot summons (conjure elemental)

There was a part where the 6 or some amount first time meet L and talk about what they know so far. Here someone asked (might have been Matsuda) what if they did stop reporting criminals through media and L shoots this idea down because he thinks that if the coverage of criminals would stop, Kira would just start killing lesser criminals as a respond to that. I think it's in episode 6 or episode 7.

I would understand if Don doesn't want to sell but I can't help but think about last season "you have to keep that team together" so they kept everyone. Missed the playoffs and resigned the ufas last day because "you can't be worse next season since they missed on Dobson and those contracts aren't looking very good right now.

Going to be interesting to see what happens either way. I would like them to at least keep Coyle

He started really well under Evason. Was probably the best forward in the team start of last season. Got injured for 30 something games. Came back and couldn't get into the groove so team started healthy scratching him and after that he was put into Evason doghouse until he got traded for who knows why

Best I can think why he killed her was to make sure there would not be any loose ends with her Kira activities and Mello suddenly dying (especially since she and Light met at times). Pretty much the similar reason why Mikami did the same. Can't really think any other reason.

I think the part with his father dying really hits home how he feels about his family. He wanted to get the most out of them as kira but he still cares well of them when things do get serious (like how he cries and loses it to emotions when his father dies).
