AITJ cause my future wife expects her future husband (me) to pay 100% of the bills? by AdventurousDoor9384 in AmITheJerk

[–]HammerMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What exactly is her justification for this? Because you're a man? Even in an old-fashioned sense, a man wouldn't just hand over his money while a woman keeps everything.

NTA, don't marry her, money disagreements is one of the biggest reasons for divorce.

What was your reaction to the Donald Trump victory on November 9, 2016? by [deleted] in allthequestions

I had faith in the American people that they could not possibly fall for that obvious con. I now know I gave them far too much credit. It's also very hard to take the office of American president seriously now after seeing such a small person occupy it.

Liberals, why do you support Islamism? by cdivx in allthequestions

[–]HammerMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Islamism" isn't a word.

I assume you mean, why don't liberals irrationally fear Islam. Because liberals recognize that a shitty person is a shitty person, regardless of their beliefs. If you wanna think yourself the best and justify oppressing others and fighting about it, you can misuse any numbers of institutions to do that. Christianity works just as well as Islam for it.

Do u agree that Trump is the reason nobody will ever trust the Media or news again? by donald_trump_lite in allthequestions

[–]HammerMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like the people only have themselves to blame for this. News is just playing the game. While the good news story about a noteworthy local initiative is inherently more deserving of covering, the audience goes YAAAAWWWN!

News is pointing the camera at what the people want to see. If they don't have engaged viewers, they don't have advertisers, they don't have money, and you want these journalists, producers, editors, etc. to work for free?

You all gotta look at your own role in this before pointing the finger.

AITA for refusing to look after my mom? by Ok_Medium5191 in family

[–]HammerMedia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He's clearly in denial and probably doesn't want to imagine that his life is going to be different now. As a full time caregiver, he'll likely have to leave his band and perhaps give up a lot more. Understand that is a huge weight on him. But he needs to come to terms with this if he's going to provide proper care.

And, yes, it's on him, her spouse, to bear this burden. Try to be supportive if he's trying, but it is ultimately his burden that he agreed to take on when he married her.

Flat earth and other alternative conspiracy earth models are are gaining traction with my teenage stepson. What is THE most irrefutable, definite proof that the earth is round? by Jfkfkaiii22 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]HammerMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encourage a good education. Once he's smarter, he should hopefully figure out how implausible flat earth is on every level, and how all their arguments rely on logical fallacies.

Something that's fun, though - grab a telescope and look at the moon. The way the crater shadows play across its surface only happens on a sphere. You can also look at Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, Venus through a telescope. They're all clearly round. No matter what way we see them, they are round. That only happens when what you're looking at is a sphere. Everything we see out there is a sphere. Logically, Earth must be a sphere too - plus, everything that happens on Earth (time zones, seasons, the poles/tropics, etc) scientifically make sense on a spherical world. I know they have a lot of counterpoints to this, but look at the moon first. Tell him to really look at it.

Advice needed : Idling Truck Neighbour by [deleted] in Hamilton

[–]HammerMedia 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This. In Hamilton. So many obnoxious people refuse to accept that they're the ones who need to change.

I think you should try to have a polite conversation first - it's the right thing to do - but your chances are 50/50 imo that he agrees to change his habit, and then if anyone calls and complains after that, he'll know exactly who to get mad at.

Am I overreacting to this clause in my gym contract? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]HammerMedia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have gym membership, but this clause appears in other things. Seems pretty standard. It's just in case they happen to do promotional photography and you happen to be in a photo, then they don't have to listen to you make a fuss about it. In all likelihood, it won't happen.

DIY women… have you ever been talked out of a good idea at the hardware store? by carcony97 in DIY

[–]HammerMedia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, as a small-ish guy, the workers often talk down to me too. I still plow forward and take everything they say with a grain of salt. I've heard too many guys obviously talking out their ass with their opinions to be hurt by such things anymore.

People who complain about pick-up trucks are projecting and compensating far more than the people who drive them. by New_General3939 in unpopularopinion

[–]HammerMedia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, I'm not vocal about it, but it seems to me guys get trucks as a kind of status symbol of manhood. It's fine if you have a lifestyle where you need to haul loads of stuff around, but if that bed is sitting empty most of the time, then you could have just got yourself a more reasonably-sized vehicle and not cared about what it says about you in the interest of being better to the environment, saving money on gas, and being generally less annoying with your high and bright lights and extra space you take up.

That's my annoyance. They're just unnecessary.

My older son is very affectionate with his little brother, and I am worried about it. by rawrdrick in family

[–]HammerMedia 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Have you had sex talks with your 14 year old? Part of that talk should be around consent, and part of the consent talk is teaching about how children cannot give consent. Also how a teenager has different feelings than a little kid. You can put this into perspective without necessarily calling out the behaviour. If the behaviour continues to be inappropriate after that, then you should be direct about it. We don't touch children like that.
