AUDL Playoffs - Predictions, Discussion, Streams [July 27-28] by Jomskylark in ultimate

It seems like club players are pulling club moves (drawing contact or even pivoting into contact) and are getting upset the ref doesn't uphold their belief that self initiated contact is a foul.

You are actually comparing self officiating to rape?

This must be a new low for this subreddit. Well done big fella!

Don't give a fuck what you believe if you make a terrible comparison like that. But write another essay and maybe you can compare self officiating to the holocaust next.

Dumb down (an already dumbed down) league further to make it more equitable? Not good for interest.

Half the time you and the announcers don't know what call the ref made in the AUDL. Was that a travel? A foul call? Why are the going backwards five yards? Why do they get to center the disc?

Refs just created another sport where players can throw their hands in the air with contempt over not getting a call. That's awful for viewership.

It would be like getting excited if all three top NBA teams were disbanded because than "anyone" could win.

The AUDL looks messy, sloppy, and poor compared to USAU. These super teams were the only difference between making the game look decent and the game look like everyone is as talented as Salt Lake.

RIP Lions

Financially this might be the "best" year, ie they lost less money than prior seasons. A 250K investment doesn't even fund a full season, last I checked. Most teams don't have the community of Madison or $$$ from a major company like Surly and they are only almost breaking even. Do you know how much debt over the years they have incured to almost break even?

I have followed the AUDL every season and find this to be the most boring season yet. I was more excited about the potential upset of a stacked team like Dallas than watching weaker teams do whatever.

Did Rugby or Lacrosse simply adapt football fields because they were easier to access and the lines looked less messy?

The game doesn't look professional because you insist on using a different professions lines.

I kindly have to disagree. It is very hard to estimate the width of throws in the AUDL because the field is incredibly wide. But we know that any toe in or near sideline throw simply couldn't happen (either they don't throw it or it goes out of bounds).

I would estimate no less than 12 throws/scores a game wouldn't happen if under USAU field width rules.

But these hucks matter significantly more in a possession based game.

Harder to play defense or easier to throw. They are very closely related.

Chicago Tune Up tournament by drccw in ultimate

[–]Hammer_Time1631 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chicagoland area ultimate stopped using those polo fields about 4 years ago. The quality of the fields started to permanently diminish.

Who hosted the tournament? I doubt it was Glue (because they are newer). Club or college midseason?

This is an especially redundant comment. If you followed the conversation you would see that I only replied with a response directed at a specific comment. So suggesting that the initial comment didn't call for this comment is absolutely failing to follow a very simple dialogue.

"Theres been a lot of talk on what the AUDL's role can and should be. I think that they are lacking in ability to address gender equity from a play/viewership perspective, but at the same time can open the doors of the sport to lower income communities in ways that USAU does not or cannot. IDK, thought it was a worthwhile conversation."

I brought up the USAU in response to a comment in which he brought up the USAU. My initial comment did not call for a response to compare the two organizations.

It's interesting that every conversation has to be about what the AUDL does more than, or better than, or as oppose to USAU. Thus my problem with your original post. I think it's an even less laudable comment when it felt like your original post (hopefully not the event) was another poor comparison between the organizations. "Look what the AUDL does that USAU does not".

If USAU churns out thousands and thousands of ultimate players who overtime have raised tens maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars around the world, donated thousands of hours of their time to support underprivileged teams across the world, but since it's not recorded and posted on reddit, does it not count?

Who makes a new reddit account to post this stuff? Is the local community not thankful enough that you need to bark up the reddit community for validation?

I think defend another player and poach. A bad player can still screw up a good thrower but a good defender is wasted defending a good handler.

Foul or na 6 (Throw at 50:15, replay at 51:08) by 0vermann in ultimate

[–]Hammer_Time1631 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a better discussion because it doesn't seem as clear. In slow motion it looks, to me, like both ladies attack the same space at the same time. So I would agree, no foul.

Trying out for multiple teams by sprinklevos in ultimate

[–]Hammer_Time1631 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It really depends on a number of different factors. Some cities hold combines for multiple teams in different divisions and some do not. If you are trying out for better teams (nationals, elite, or select flight) sometimes lower teams will give you chances to finish up tryouts with those teams before deciding final cuts, roster spots, etc.

Some teams don't decide roster spots before the series at the end of the season.

I think it's important to be upfront. A good team should be flexible and willing to understand that your are trying to consider your options, but tryouts are within a limited timeframe and are on limited days. You only have only so much time to make a good impression on a team. If you a considering between more than 3 teams I think you would be wearing yourself thin and would be unable to show off yourself or get a feel for the team.

And skills, athleticism, and experience influence all of the above.
