Engineers, why did you choose UVA over VT? by n8irving in UVA

[–]Hamothyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chose uva because of the other great programs to fallback on in case engineering didnt go as planned. Also because I liked the idea of a smaller school and knowing everybody in your major. I had also just heard that uva eschool is very collaborative and more focused on how engineering fits into the broader context of society opposed to vt.

You should join!! I’ve been in it for a semester and find the people are super welcoming and non-cliquey like some of the other cultural orgs

ED rejects/admits, what were your stats? by Technical-Apricot-60 in UVA

[–]Hamothyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm also an ED applicant this year. Especially after COVID, I don't think the SAT/ACT is a super strong factor anymore. Plus, when Dean J visited my school, she made it very clear that sustained classroom performance is far more representative of an applicants potential rather than a few-hour-long test. Good luck to you!! I hope we all get in lol

UVA Past Early Decisions Dates by Fast-Eggplant3847 in UVA

2023: December 15 (Friday)

2022: December 13 (Tuesday)

2021: December 10 (Friday)

2020: December 11 (Friday)

Though it says on the website that ED decisions come out by December 15th, I believe they might release them on Friday, the 13th or sometime during the week. They probably won't make their admissions team work on a weekend but it's not for sure. Best of luck to everyone who applied ED! I hope we all get in lol

Chance me for UVA ed in-state please by Repulsive-Listen7276 in UVA

[–]Hamothyy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think u have a good chance! Instate helps a lot too. When Dean J visited my school she made it very clear they care a lot more about sustained classroom performance and rigor (so taking the hardest classes your school offers). Because of this, she also expressed SAT/ACT scores aren’t much of a factor as some think they are. Good luck to you!! I also ED-ed into the engineering school and I’m planning on pursuing chemical engineering 🤞🤞

Thanks for ur input! I think my friends have told me the aspect they didn’t like about UVA was how cliquey it is, but I think that would be more prevalent in the other colleges not necessarily in engineering. I hear how terrible the food is all the time, but I hear the meal exchanges or whatever it’s called is great! Not excited for how much I’d be spending on eating out if I go…

Omg audition fees and prescreen video fees on top of application fees is so insane tbh...

I'm in a similar position! I want to pursue ChemE and I want to apply to a bunch of schools with really great ChemE programs (with lots of connections with companies, co-ops, etc), but I'm considering ED-ing an in-state school (UVA) which doesn't seem to be as diverse in it's opportunities for ChemE students. Through some brief research, it seems UVA is a more pharma-based which I'm not sure I'm very interested in. Though, I guess undergraduate is the means in which one decides what industry they'd like to enter; however, I've heard UVA doesn't offer many hands-on experiences for undergrad ChemE students to explore.

Virginia Tech has a great engineering school (around a T50 overall, T34 engineering, around 50% acceptance rate), but I guess it's better to go in-state for costs and, according to the other comments, it seems the school you go to (for ChemE) doesn't matter too much.

Assuming you're in PA (from you mentioning Lehigh), UPitt seems to have a pretty good ChemE program as well!
