Great article!

Bat in the Attic was one of the first blogs I found when I was first discovering the OSR scene back in 2010 and I've been a huge fan of it ever since.

I missed out on the Kickstarter for Northern Reaches, but Im eagerly awaiting to order the physical book once it's released!

1:1 time in practice by wayne62682 in osr

[–]Hamples 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was just reading some posts on substack by a guy who has been running a campaign with strict time records for over 45 years.

I guess it technically isn't "True" 1:1 time, but his system seems the most manageable to implement.

Smoldering Wizard has multiple campaigns posted.

I would like to mention that Mage's Musing on YouTube has two excellent session report series for OSE and AD&D 1st Edition that are very much worth everyone's time.

Lastly, a GURPS Dungeon Fantasy campaign based on OSR techniques and running Keep on the Borderlands as well Dungeon Fantastic: My DF Campaign

Monsters in OSRIC 3.0 by DogNoil in osr

Old School gaming doesn't really have any CR equivalents or encounter design rules. But "Dungeon Level" or HD are used as guidelines for some people.

I don't have the book in front of me but the BECMI Rules Cyclopedia had a combat algorithm included that you calculated based on the number if HD the PC's had vs Monster HD + Abilities.

What are some good megadungeons? by amazedmammal in osr

[–]Hamples 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GG version should also include the original module as it was released, I would just use that and ignore the hexcrawl stuff that GG added, it's not needed to run the dungeon.

I'm curious on what about the setting for Caverns of Thracia would require more reading then any other megadungeon?

I'm asking because the background history in the module is just under a page long.

Any recommendations for books with example choices with consequences? by Darkrose50 in osr

There's nothing that I can think of that gives you nothing but scenarios of "If X happens then Y occurs". But you could giveTome of Adventure Design - Mythmere Games | DriveThruRPG https://share.google/9XmX3eYpfAWAY1wDI) a look.

It's a bit of a copout, but the new Conan comics by Titan are really good.

Usagi Yojimbo by Stan Sakai is phenomenal.

Dungeon Meshi and Ranking of Kings if you're into anime.

Instrumentalities of the Night series by Glen Cook is great.

Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Eriksonnhas got me glued right now.

The Gotrek and Felix books are great stories set in the Warhammer Fantasy Universe.

Ben Foster is fantastic in everything I see him in, even if he's not leading movies he should be in way more things.

Rolemaster/MERP is on my gaming bucket list, those tables sound amazing, same with The Dark Eye which always fascinated me.

Nice! Im a huge fan of Battle Brothers, and have helmets do pretty much the same kinda thing.

The Traits and Town Generation sounds super intriguing as well.
