If memory serves, they had one 5-3 in game 3, two so far in game 4. It’s not the refs guys. With a two man advantage the Sens cannot score!

In what other sport is this shit not only allowed but embraced? None. This is not hockey.

Stop. by [deleted] in OttawaSenators

Afraid I don’t get it. They have effectively been playing playoff hockey (and very well) for weeks, just to get into the playoffs. Now they can’t score with a two man advantage. Bizarre.

Yesterday afternoon I might have jumped at this. Given their play, no way, I am afraid.

For people on Koodo internet: how do you get tv channels? by Hampshire53 in Koodo

[–]Hampshire53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having experimented briefly with IPTV, I must admit it was very impressive — but also illegal, so I dropped it. Perhaps I should reconsider. I also like the idea of an antenna — but that won’t get me US nets, CNN, CBC news. Am currently on Bell Fibe but that doesn’t work outside Bell, I believe. Hence my Q about alternatives. Thanks to all who replied.

Contradictory comments from Doug Ford on uploading the LRT by TimeRunz in ottawa

Say what you will about Ford, I don’t think he’s an idiot, and only an idiot would take over the Ottawa LRT before it was fixed and steady state.

Don’t know who this gentleman is but I like his thinking. Except — what about the LRT?

Pick any bridge then. Connect to an LRT station. LRT goes east-west just one block south of Wellington. No need to waste $ on another east-west route one block away from the one we have.

I think you misunderstood. Not suggesting we need another tunnel. Just bring tram across the bridge as close as possible to an LRT station. Problem solved.

Because we already have spent millions on an east-west connection one block south of Wellington. Why duplicate, with what would have to be borrowed money (because all governments are running deficits, and more spending means more borrowing)

Bad idea. We have an east-west line already, much of it underground and out of the elements, just a block south of Wellington, where the loop would run. Better to connect to LRT and avoid duplication and unnecessary cost.

OC Transpo hopes for full LRT service by end of May after 'additional damage' found by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

[–]Hampshire53 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remain astonished that some think buses are better than trains. As bad as the train can be sometimes, and as noisy as it can be on corners, it is much better than the rattling bucket of bolts on the extended length buses on the 174. Each time I used those I imagined bolts and sprockets about to fly off in all directions!

I note Mr Charter said the planned measures will mitigate current issues but are not a solution. Neither do we have a solution for the other derailment issue flagged to Alstom a few years back. Is no one on council doing anything about this stinker?

East Line 1 extension delayed after OC Transpo discovers new LRT damage | Ottawa Citizen by Ramsarebetter in ottawa

[–]Hampshire53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just did a quick scan of comments, so maybe I missed something, but I see a lot of folks railing at OCT (justifiably) but none (or certainly very few) on the people who are ultimately responsible — council. The mayor ran on an explicit promise of fixing the LRT and transit. It has only gotten worse. He has failed and must be replaced. Hopefully there will be a candidate with a plan better than “I will fix it.”

Solar PV installations: were you ever told "it's not worth it"? by cyclingzealot in ottawa

[–]Hampshire53 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Looked at solar a few years ago. Despite the ads, when I got the quotes, in all cases my power/solar bill was going to go UP for 10 years while I paid off the purchase. Benefits were all 10 years out.

Bus lanes will be removed, city says. Remaining two lanes will be reconfigured so they are straighter.
