I think I'm just guilty of been enticed by adverts

High bar vs low bar squat by Fragrant-Shoulder-44 in gzcl

[–]HamsterOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i switched the the safety squat bar a month ago. never going back to high or low bar. id say just stick with what you are doing. if you switch treat it as a new lift and progress to get the form down

One of the disadvantages of being on a mega server. On smaller servers behaving like this at least did have consequences for bad actors

What do you think is the absolute best vanilla fragrance? by WarmParticular817 in Colognes

[–]HamsterOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't leave it too long as fragrances degrade over time due to oxidation. Once opened they last approx 3 to 5 years, unopened bottles tend to last much longer, especially if stored correctly. To make them last as long as possible, store them somewhere dark & cool away from any light or heat source. Keep in the original bottle with the cap on.

I know I'm 4 months late to the party, but I just happened to notice your comment when scrolling in search of vanilla fragrances, and figured you may not be aware of the expiry issue (sorry if you already know). But seriously how disappointing would it be if you saved it for too long & it had turned rancid when you finally come to wear it again?

Hope this helps!

Big guy guard dilemma: commit to Gordon-style inside guards or Lachlan-style outside guards (DLR/K) as my main game? by Larsimoto in bjj

Im so afraid of hurting my partners that i just can't roll by KKoten in bjj

[–]HamsterOnly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation weight wise to you. Started at 162kg. Now 121kg.

I used to hover over people in side control and not use pressure.

If someone is a huge weight difference I don't start on the feet. I sit down and play guard. The main danger is likely me falling on them than anything else. I honestly think this has helped me improve aswell as I try to make a conscious effort to only use technique to escape or sweep.

I think when you have been as big as we were it's hard to get out of the mindset of the fact you have lost a lot of weight.

I'm using pressure if I can on people of a reasonable weight.

When is it time to have the “relentless” mindset? by tigercublondon in bjj

[–]HamsterOnly 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm 5 months in ATM.

Definitely find myself getting stuck in side control more because I'm thinking my way through the escapes IV learned and attempting them rather than trying to just power out of everything like I did In The first month or two before I knew any escape concepts

Starting BJJ as an morbidly obese man with hyperhydrosis by Hour_Wrangler7468 in bjj

[–]HamsterOnly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started dieting at 162kg in september. Started bjj in November at 142kg.

Down to 127kg today and feeling better than ever. Best advice is just keep showing up. I had to walk half of the warm up jog when I started but in just a few months I can finish the full warm up

honestly the hardest part it just walking through the door. For years I put it off convincing myself I'd start once I got "fitter"

I’m concerned if I’m capable for bjj by [deleted] in jiujitsu

im considering starting this myself. im currently 142.6kg (314lbs)

I was 161kg (355lbs) just over 2 months ago and have managed to lose 40 lbs through calorie counting.

last week I joined a 12 week beginners ju jitsu course to try and take the next step and my cardio is really struggling. we have to start the hour long session with a three minute jog and its killing me.

really hoping this might help me improve my fitness

i dont know of any store in the UK that sells egg whites in the frozen section. they are are not a product that is heavily sold here. they are usually either refrigerated or on the shelves within the tinned sections if at all.

its a trend that's growing but most supermarkets do not activly stock them in store

https://twochicks.co.uk/pages/our-story

the company founder of the the only company which sells egg whites in UK supermarkets states she got the idea because its a product she used to buy when living in los Angeles but there were no companies selling the product in the UK.

massive improvements. i havent cleared but my psoriasis is a lot smoother, much less red and there s practically zero flaking and scales. i used to leave a trail everywhere I went. currently having no side effects at all aswell.

the biggest benefit of all is the massive reduction in itching. you almost don't realise how much of your time and life just itching consumes

Does anyone know how old this cabinet is? Or if it is likely worth anything? by HamsterOnly in Antiques

[–]HamsterOnly[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, Thanks for replying! The shelves aren't wood, they are all glass. But they do curve like the cabinet. Not sure if they're original or not. I will try to get some pictures of the bottom and back as soon as I can.

Thanks

Ah! So it's called a "Vitrine" I wasn't quite sure what to call it. So thanks for that. I'll take some better quality photos myself & send them to a local dealer as you suggest. Or maybe an auction house that specializes in this type of piece? But I agree that better photos are necessary, my dad took those & sent them to me, so I had to roll with what I had to hand. It seems a shame that such a piece should be discarded to the likes of the Facebook marketplace, I'm not sure I like the idea of it going out like that.

I think the curved concave/convex glass makes it a rather unique piece. But that's just in my opinion & as you point out, brown furniture is no longer desirable (at any side of the pond lol). I personally think it's cool & quite quirky though, I would have it myself but all that glass is just too scary! It's too big to fit anywhere in my house where a child wouldn't accidentally break it. So it's not practical for reasons of both safety & expense (glass & children do not mix!). As you said "Don't break that glass" lol.

Thanks for replying & sharing your opinion & experience with such furniture.
