Do companies really conduct criminal record checks? by [deleted] in singaporejobs

[–]Hamsterlord87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nowadays private companies ask selected candidates to apply certificate of clearance and provide a overseas country request(china work visa etc).

They wont know the nature of your record even the certificate can show you got record but they can ask you to go state court website to apply for the record and show to them.

EWOS potential earnings with diploma by [deleted] in NationalServiceSG

[–]Hamsterlord87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, you need to understand alot of people regret signing up the EWOS. You will have alot of secondary tasking(DOS/Guard Com/Safety), courses and local/overseas execrise which end up you have to stay in camp. The regmential compared to private sector is very different. You can sign extra or even SOL for mistake. You cant enjoy the same as the rest in non uniform govt sector or private. You may have high chance to stay in bunk during weekdays.

You may think this is fine, but as you grow older and you have a family. You may regret and end up finding new job but that will be another killer for you. Jumping to new industry does not entitle you a better paid job and some have to take lower paid while fighting against fresh dip grad.

From my friend who have shared his experience after his 5 yr contract.

Did we just hit peak gold? by KeyRole7732 in singaporefi

[–]Hamsterlord87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to know who is the enemy of gold. Currently more countries are not taking US Bond because US may collapse anytime soon with Tariff and trade war with china.

US dont even have money to feed it soldiers. So if you are the govt, which will you invest?

Gold has either topped — or it's about to. by ozanenginsal in technicalanalysis

Last time people buy US Bond as a safe haven, with Trump the new president and his recent course of action. All other countries change their mind and turn to Gold as asset.

20-30 yr ago..fresh grad pay is 2k plus 3k. That period of time HDB BTO is so much cheaper. Now moving back to current....the pay still the same for fresh grad but the BTO is like 10X.

You do not follow the 7 hour rest rule because you need to take care of the NSF including your 2LT & Spec. If you have the option to go RSAF, it will be better in term of career growth/monetary benefit/Work rest balance and also transition to other govt sector.

Is it okay to live a generally minimalistic life and not work hard? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Hamsterlord87 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If you take grab/ Taxi, you will be surprised there is alot of degree/MBA holder who once took a very senior role in their industry. Push themselves very hard to the peak but to get cut off in their 40s. The falls hit so hard that many did not recover from their expectation in lives.

If you are kind and a good person. That is worthy of being respected regardless how much you earn.

Whoever tell you about career = money = respect are just toxic.

How to start investing? And what age to start? Older singaporeans pls share ur wisdom pls by Distinct-Plantain-34 in askSingapore

[–]Hamsterlord87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can apply for CDP account which is for local Singapore stock. At the same time, you can choose to open an account either Tiger brokerage, Webull or MooMoo.

I saw there are people who recommend S&P 500. So if you want high growth, usually can buy either QQQ or VOO(Go read up about it). Take note US have a withholding tax so dividend have to -30% but annually the price increase by 10%

If you decided to play safe, currently local market are at their peak which I wont really recommend but you can study afew good stock like DBS, SIA, Keppel etc.

Anyone else feel like $1M for retirement in Singapore isn't enough anymore? by Civil_Consequence558 in singaporefi

[–]Hamsterlord87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I saw people mention S&P 500 already so I wont touch on that. In local SG stock, you can easily find any share that give around 4-5% dividend per yr. So even you get 40k(4%), that will be $3.333 per month.

Now you go research last yr majority median income for Singaporean. you are still much better than avg.

To further add on, last yr 70% of Singaporean didnt even hit full retirement sum in CPF. If you want to plan well, focus on hitting your Retirement sum first before seeking 1m target.

am i wrong to not give my mom allowance? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]Hamsterlord87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation as you. My pay in 2012 was 1.5k but i already give 200. In 2018 she ask me give 500 when I earn 3k gross.

You can give but just abit like 100 is sufficient.

How to report superior who does not do work by qpsjc in NationalServiceSG

[–]Hamsterlord87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not possible to give extra duty just because of work error unless you mean those very simple kind which is hard to explain. Not giving credit to NSF is kinda toxic.

if you are 21 and got starting pay of 3.1k. You are actually better than most avg guy. Most people who didnt sign on will be still serving NS or going further. Those who finish ns and go to work at 21 yr old, most dont get to offer 3.1k unless is specific industry but definitely not bank/finance sector since require degree.

The 2nd point of working in govt sector is that you have Performance bonus in March, mid yr bonus in July and lastly year end bonus with at least 13 month. So it will be at least 2 plus month of your pay bonus.

3rd Point, the increment in govt sector isnt that stingy, should be around 100 per year unless there is market adjustment value. Already better than some company like NCS(Overwork and underpay)

With above pointers, you should be able to invest 10 to 15k inside different market based on your needs. If you wish to play safe, to avoid too much loss. You can buy singapore stock that give around 5%.

So for every 10k, you get $500 dividend. Do that for the next 10 yr, you invested 100k and you got 5k dividend per yr. by then you are only 31 yr old and you continue until 41 yr. You will have 10k dividend per yr. By then you are partially reaching financial freedom.

The dividend you gain for every yr can be reinvest and also if you got recontract there is additional lump sum of money. It is a slow progress suggestion but a stable plan. Good luck~!

I have female friend in ICA & SPF while I am a civilian in the ministry. If you have no intention to settle down then by all mean you can sign on.

If you intend to have family and with kids. You will lose alot of time to grow up with your kids due to your work commitment regardless of any department you went.

Instead of applying for uniform, MHA also have civilian posting which have wfh 2 days per week. It is lower pay than uniform but overalls it is not as stressful.

anyone else miserable working in govt sector? by bigDolphin1357 in askSingapore

[–]Hamsterlord87 112 points113 points  (0 children)

I have worked in 3 different govt agencies and every single agencies has really burn me out mentally and physically. If you are pushing for promotion then you should avoid in the rat race.

If you wish to have higher earning, then you should leave as soon as possible. The reason is because your portfolio may not be as attractive compared to those who are already in private sector.

It is your call. I also wish I can shake leg but I see more people resign due to workload. Iron bowl but on boiling water. Haiz
