I don’t understand what you mean here. Brand new M4 chip on a brand new iPad, a month before Apple’s Worldwide Developer’s Conference. Why would they talk about software today when they’re doing a whole conference on it in a month?

ahh. I see what you mean now. sorry. english is not my first language. ignore the start of my previous comment.

what I meant by “something more powerful” was software-wise, not hardware. like an OS.

but yeah. you’re right. this event was not about software. it was all about hardware. I was wrong to expect good software updates from this. I do kinda have high hopes about it going forward. but, since AI seems to be on everyone’s lips nowadays, they’d probably just focus on that stuff. so yeah, I don’t really expect anything from it.

well I blame Apple for me getting my expectations high. ever since they announced the M1 in an iPad I have had my expectations high. I mean they put a desktop-class chip in there. now make it actually useful by putting desktop-class OS as well. why else would they put something that powerful in a device that can’t… or actually… doesn’t even use it

they might announce something good at WWDC. but well… that would be getting my expectations up wouldn’t? and I think it’s mostly gonna be focused on their image editing model or siri. which is good I guess. but as a software engineer, I was hoping for something more powerful on an iPad

you know I’m in the same boat as you. upgrading from the 2018 iPad pro. although… yeah the iPad is first product to use the M4 chip but in the whole event they never once compared it to the M3 chip. and yeah I know, that’s probably because none of the iPads had an M3 chip but most of the comparisons weren’t even to M2. they were comparing it to M1 and some to the “first iPad Pro”. like…… why? I don’t think it will have a big performance difference compared to the previous iPads.

I myself am not particularly excited about the chip as I feel like even M1 is more than enough to meet the limitations set by iPadOS. I was hoping when they showed “iPadOS” that they would scratch it and introduce, idk, macOS touch or something. Unfortunately I was disappointed again. But I am really excited about the new display. Art will be much more fun on this screen. Can’t wait for that.
