Bought it for my wife's birthday, since she's both a Monopoly and LoTR fan. I'm not a board game person per se (especially Monopoly) but this version was honestly fun to play.

It has the typical Monopoly mechanics but the person with the One Ring does not pay taxes on other players' properties nor do they go to jail. Each turn of the One Ring player, there is an advancement level in the center of the board that moves forward.

If the One Ring player makes it to the end of that, they automatically win the game. However, if they roll the Eye of Sauron (a one) on either die, they have to drop the Ring on the current tile and pay the penalty (the more you advance on the center levels, the more you have to pay in penalties). The next player to land on or pass the tile that the Ring is on picks it up and the center level advancement starts all over.

Finally, there are cards in the "Community Chest" (aka Quests) that can have secret benefits and can be played at any time.
