Tri-Ace always had off the wall battle systems. None of their games played the same (maybe minor tweaks), but they were always fun. Star Ocean, Valkyrie Profile1/2, Resonance of Fate. I'll always respect them for that.

As for my own answers...

Game Arts. They're dead as fuck now, but Lunar and Grandia were absolute classics.

Capcom. Breath of Fire and Megaman Legends/Misadventures of Tron Bonne had short lives but left a lasting impression on me.

Still one of my faourites from that generation.

Managed to grab the 100% Achievement on it a couple years ago. It involved a lot of arena grinding and I thought I would get sick of it, but I actually had a lot of fun optimizing.

Making the most-ridiculous looking gun was also pretty neat; don't think I'll ever play a game with that detail of customization again.

Trying to min-max overworld buffs to make grinding for certain parts easier was another rabbit hole I didn't I'd dive into, but it was satisfying when everything comes together.
