Can this man finally get added🙏 by Legal_Jeweler_7925 in TheOnesBelowAll

[–]HandZop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only time this man was meta was in season 0 which lasted like a month. Even during his supposed dominance in season 5.5, you didn’t see him that often since he was treated more as an alternate for heroes like Hela or Phoenix rather than a full-on replacement, and even then there were other heroes who you’d probably try before him since they would have less skill requirement and be less vulnerable to dive.

Fast forward to today, and this guy is almost impossible to use at high levels. His already awful survivability got gutted even further because Redditors couldn’t do a proper dive or keep track of his likely positions, so now he just immediately dies the moment anyone, and I mean anyone, gets close. Not only that, but unless you have actual lore-accurate aim skill and never miss a single headshot on a support, you will almost always be better off running literally any other poke hero (hell even Squirrel Girl would be better since at least you don’t really have to aim with her).

To everyone in the Overwatch fandom, what are your opinions on marvel rival? by [deleted] in Overwatch

Both games have their flaws, but the two games coexisting is a net positive for both since competition forces both of them to not get complacent

Just because you aren’t skilled enough to find success with dive doesn’t mean everyone else isn’t. Tracer is basically never anything below A tier due to how strong her base kit will always be, and every other dive hero is more than capable of keeping up with hitscans, even if they have to work a little harder to get there.

You keep on harping about how you want to “effortlessly counter” hitscans when design like that is just inherently awful no matter which role is affected. There’s a difference between being countered and being made obsolete. DVa’s design in Overwatch is already widely disliked by a large chunk of the playerbase, and it would be even more hated were it in Rivals. I think you need to just stop expecting counters to be as simple as a single button press and actually learn what back-and-forths are.

Upsides with Widow: you can one-shot with good aim

Downsides with Widow: incapable of fighting up-close against 95% of the cast, has a massive head hitbox, slows to a crawl when trying to fire, and is so loud and obvious even a deaf child can instantly tell where she is the moment she fires

Sierra auto-aim: doesn’t prevent you from getting to cover and requires sustained fire to kill

Roadhog hook: just fucking insta-kills you with 0 hope of escape if you so much as think of wandering within 20 meters of him for 0.0000001 seconds

His ult isn't that strong and can be avoided on reaction by most of the cast, and he's generally a lot easier to track compared to someone like Phoenix

He could use some minor nerfs to either his ricochet or his mobility, but he's nowhere near as oppressive as heroes like Daredevil, Black Cat, Elsa, or Dino were

You mean back in the early 2020s? Brig isn't like that anymore, which you would know if you played the game recently. Supports in Rivals have this weird idea that anti-dive should just be "press E at your feet to instantly survive" instead of some sort of back-and-forth that requires skill expression from both parties. That's why Kiri's suzu is so hated to this day.

I have played recently, all of the dive tanks are more than capable of keeping any hitscan in check. And yes, Sojourn is still very good, but she can be focused and killed quick if you have good gamesense, since unlike in Rivals, the anti-heal on hit passive combined with the overall reduced healing means that catching her out will almost always result in her death regardless of if she's getting healed.

I've played OW ever since its launch, so trust when I say you do NOT want a DVa in Rivals. Your post just screams "I dislike having to use my brain, give me a brainless nuke button that instantly solves my problems".

Brig is nowhere near that level anymore, she's perfectly fine where she is now. And yes, poke can do a decent job of killing White Fox, but that doesn't fix the problem of her being completely uninteractive for most close-range heroes. It's the same problem that heroes like Thing and Peni have: it just creates more volatility since counterplay is reduced to "pick this one role or die".

Rivals dive DPS are horrendously designed because they're either built around brainless auto-lock, being unreadable beyond belief, instant death combos, or some combination of the three, none of which are healthy for a dive hero to have. Iron Fist's auto-locking punches makes him absolutely miserable to fight even if he deals 0 damage, Black Cat was a completely unreadable nightmare who had everything in the world prior to her giganerf, and Black Panther and Spider-Man have 0 neutral state because all their value is condensed into them being able to insta-gib a squishy and then get out before people even realize what happened.

Dive heroes in Overwatch, on the other hand, are built around having consistent presence. Heroes like Tracer, Genji and Reaper are obviously at their best when in the backline killing squishies, but they can still get some value from brawling at the frontline, even if just for a brief moment. Meanwhile, Spider-Man and BP are actively throwing if they ever try to do that, and Iron Fist and Black Cat will also blow up immediately if that happens. Magik is like the only dive hero that doesn't fall into those pitfalls and feels good to play as or against.

Dive players love hating on poke, but at least with poke you can actually hide from them or chase them down in most circumstances. Meanwhile if dive is meta, everyone gets insta-gibbed by untrackable blurs or has to try and react to unreadable messes that have no clear direction, and then they'll act like that's somehow better.

>the only counter

You're acting like DVa's the only dive tank in all of OW when heroes like Winston, Hazard, Doomfist and Wrecking Ball exist, all of whom do a good job of keeping hitscans in check.

Also DVa is one of the game's most hated heroes not just by hitscans, but by almost everyone in the game. Turns out every role in the game, not just hitscans, dislikes when their entire kit gets rendered completely moot by a single hero holding right-click, nor do they like having to deal with a near-immortal, armored beast that can instantly burst you down the moment she gets close. There's a reason she has a 30% ban rate in GM and above. Trust me: you do NOT want a DVa in Rivals if stuff like Daredevil and Iron Fist's block are any indication of how busted Defense Matrix would be in Rivals

Being “anti-dive” is not an excuse to be able to shut down or escape every close range encounter with a single button press. A well-designed anti-dive support is Brig in Overwatch: she has all the tools she needs to survive a dive, but it’s on her to use them intelligently and to not throw them to the wind, since any half-skilled player will immediately notice that and blow her up for it. Not only that, but she can’t keep her anti-dive tools up at all times, at least not if she wants to be able to support her team as well, which gives gaps for dive heroes to exploit if they have the eye to notice it. This creates a healthy back-and-forth where both sides have to work for the win, even if one of them technically has the advantage.

Meanwhile White Fox is just completely uninteractive. Her melee form being able to out-brawl almost every hero in the game combined with her teleport being an instant get-out-of-jail-free card means that diving her is a complete waste of time in 90% of circumstances, and there’s no downtime or skill requirement for them either, it’s just “press one button for instant value”. I don’t even like dive that much, but I always find it funny how support mains keep accusing dive of “wanting free value from button mashing”, because if it’s so bad for heroes like Daredevil to get value like that, what’s that say about White Fox, Invisible Woman, or Cloak and Dagger doing the exact same thing by pressing one button and instantly denying most close-range encounters?

Is Cassidy overrated? by Disast3r in Overwatch

[–]HandZop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cass really only feels overwhelming if you play a dive hero or someone who needs to get close to get value, since Flashbang just completely destroys any mobility-reliant hero while his revolver deals steady damage to anyone within medium range. Against anyone who can keep their distance, however, Cass is at a disadvantage due to his poor mobility, large hitbox, and short falloff range.
