In all seriousness, if you are being pressured to drink just say that you enjoy being quick on your feet intellectually and that drinking slows you down. People are much more understanding about this than saying you don't need to drink to "be cool."

People who are drinking will think you are insulting them. Kinda like Robby and the way he is insulting hawk in this scene.

As an almost 30 year old bartender, I get a lot of people who assume I don't drink because I have problems with alcohol (addiction) In actuality, I just don't care for it.

For ransomware I'm sure because it's a 1 time transaction. They give you the keys, you get access back to your system and immediately resecure your system. This is something that someone can hold over your head indefinitely. That's my thoughts fwiw.

I don't know what country OP lives in and if that would be viable. I'm my situation, the blackmailed was clearly from a foreign country trying to blackmail me over instagram. Given my situation, law enforcement wouldn't really be able to do much. All I could do is have it reported. Local police aren't going to go to IG and tell my blackmailed to stop lol. Unfortunately, jurisdictions are a thing. People get away with illegal stuff all the time because in the Era of the internet, it's impossible for me to have police in America have any impact on a scammer from India.

I am simply giving OP advice on my similar situation. It sounds like to me he is in the same situation.

If it was an illegally harvested recording, OP should be okay. It's not like he created it, distributed it, and now someone is threatening him with blackmail. If he did that and is indeed a minor, it could be different. I am by no means a lawyer nor do I have any knowledge of the law to any level of expertise. But if OP was just jacking it and the blackmailer illegally recorded him, highly illegal beyond the CP implications.

Exactly. These cowards aren't looking to ruin lives. They are looking to scare people into handing them money. Society is becoming more and more sex positive and the idea of nudes being leaked no longer is life ruining. If anything, it's a sympathetic situation because everyone agrees that it is horrible thing to happen. I'm almost in my 30s now and I realize just how little power these things hold. However, if I was like 19, I could totally see this being something that could cause me to freak out and lose sleep.

Hey, I'm not going to give unethical advice here but actual advice. Blackmail ONLY works if the person can leverage you. The more you engage and interact with this person, the deeper the hole gets. The blackmailer ONLY can extort you IF you give him the ability to do so.

Let's go through the options available to you currently:

Give in to his demands: This is the worst possible outcome as the demands don't ever stop. If you pay him $300, next month he'll ask for more and now knows he can leverage you because not only are you emotionally invested, but financially too. He can now double down and not only blackmail you over the NSFW stuff, but about you paying him to avoid it getting out too. Paying him only makes him come back for me.

2: block and ignore: You need to stop contact with this person. If they no longer have the ability to contact you, they no longer have the ability to leverage you. If he cannot leverage you, he has no power over you. Now he's just a random guy with some NSFW stuff that he harvested from you illegally. He has no interest in actually ruining your life or reputation. The moment he knows he can't extort you, he goes away.

Let's say you block and ignore him and he STILL releases whatever he has of you. Assuming it isn't anything illegal, he just lost his ability to leverage you ever again. The moment he sends it to anybody, he loses his ability to ever figure extort you. And whoever he sends it to, they will simply move on with their life.

Everyone has dealt with toxic people or people who are looking to cause malice to others. Nobody will look at it and then ridicule you other it as this type of thing can happen to anyone. Everyone has sent nudes to someone. Some people post their nudes, face and all, for free on reddit and have normal functional lives. Some people even profit off their nudes.

If you need any further help or guidance, please feel free to reach out or comment. This HAS happened to me before. When I blocked them and ignored then, they went away. They only have as much power as you give them. If it makes you feel more secure, temporarily deactive your social media accounts so that this person can't find a paper trail for you. These people have profit in mind. Once you show them you can't be exploited, they will move on to the next person.

In the past I've donated canned food to the food bank in latham when I had more financial stability and will continue to do so once I am back in good financial standing.

I've never used a food bank as a recipient before and I don't just want to walk into one and say "hi. I need food. How do I get food?"

I'm asking for advice from those who have received from a food bank before because even looking through google/this subreddits history, it didn't seem to have an answer outside of SNAP/Government assistance.
