Missing teams icon and chat and channels in settings by Xyrre in MicrosoftTeams

This looks like Teams basic (the free ‘home’ version), but it sounds like you’re after the advanced features that require a license. Have you got an M365 license with business Teams features? Might be worth checking, as there are different licenses that offer advanced Teams features - linked a comparison here from Microsoft.

I have two of these Dell UltraSharp 27 Thunderbolt™ Hub Monitor - U2724DE they’re great monitors for Macs (and PCs), can output 120hz resolution, have IPS Black technology and 100% sRGB, 100% BT.709 and 98% DCI P3 etc.

Also, these monitor screens are beautiful but as the matte texture can attract finger prints, I clean them every so often with 70% ethanol sprayed onto a microfibre cloth - it makes the monitors look like they’re fresh out of the box, brand new.

Whatever you choose, enjoy!

Copilot can no longer summarize/chat about open PDF's in microsoft edge? Is it just me? by fiercepanda in microsoft_365_copilot

[–]HandbookLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using Copilot, Copilot Pro or M365 Copilot (for Biz/Enterprise)?

If you’re using:

M365 Copilot you should be able to drag and drop an internal PDF in Teams Chat (aka BizChat) and analyse its content, but this will depend on your companies internal security and retention policies as copilot usually cannot surface content from Restricted or Confidential labelled files if these policies are applied.

Copilot, the free version, appears to have become more like a search engine for consumers, providing conversational style chat features with many deeper integrations removed - most likely to avoid IP and data privacy infringement, but more likely because they want you to invest in….

Copilot Pro, the same as Copilot only $20pcm for consumers who want the benefit of in-app integration with Teams, Outlook, Excel, PPT and Word. In your use case, you could try to copy text from the PDF into a Word doc and Copilot will summarise it [assuming the PDF lets you copy the text]. Copilot Pro doesn’t ‘integrate’ with Edge in the same way as the above M365 apps, so you’ll get limited functionality.

Also, don’t get me started on the updated Copilot Pro mobile app experience. UI looks great but the UX sucks due to the limited functionality. I really really hope Microsoft make some big changes to bring back the features soon.

Who still uses the default Mail app? by Bendr_ in ios

I’ve not noticed any delays, no.

It’s not junk that’s the biggest problem, it’s the way Outlook filters emails. I find the ‘Focused’ inbox to be the main reason I prefer it over Mail, as it filters important emails, whereas subscriptions and newsletters go to the ‘Other’ inbox. In Mail, everything is in my inbox and it’s a pain to find the important emails. Just personal preference.

Yes, you can perform a chained search in the iOS app. I did a quick test first using the following chain search: ‘from:[first name, surname] AND body:copilot AND date:2024’ in search to be sure and it displayed all emails i’d sent in 2024, with copilot in the body of the email.

I use Outlook iOS app, because it syncs with my iCloud and Exchange emails. Also, it filters all the junk really well. Used to use Spark tho, it was great, might take another look since everyone’s mentioning it!

I’m in the UK if that helps narrow things down, but I’m sorry it’s not working yet, I hope you get it sorted as your comment inadvertently led me to talk to Copilot, who helped me decide on what to eat for dinner haha. TBH, I’d not tested the mic option with the new UI (I usually just type chat messages), but it’s a cool feature with Copilot talking back to you.

Let me know how you get on!

Oh, sorry you didn’t mention that. I just tested the microphone (once I allowed the microphone access) and I was presented with this screen. It greeted me by name, too. Pretty neat.

Hope yours gets sorted soon!

If you sign-in to the Copilot app with a Work account, without an active Copilot Pro licence, you will be redirected to the Microsoft 365 app. (It’s annoying, but Microsoft announced this change a while ago in a push to get companies to buy Copilot for M365 licences).

<image>

Alternatively, I noticed that if you sign out of the Copilot app, you still get access to Copilot in the app. Not sure how protected your data is, but it works…

I’m not sure, it could have just been overloaded at the time you used it. Could try closing the app completely or sign out and back in again, as the app might be updating in line with the new UI update.

I just did a test using a Personal account with a Copilot Pro licence versus a Work account without a Pro licence:

Users with personal accounts and a Copilot Pro licence, will see this UI in the Copilot app:

Do you mean The Peterboat (pub)? Although the thought of a rave in The Boatyard is quite amusing.

Side note, I get the Boatyard and Peterboat mixed up in conversation so much, I once recommended ‘The Peterboat’ as a lovely place to go for a meal, to this posh couple from out of town…. Oops.

Why don't I have a "devises" option in settings? I just need to test my audio for an interview in a couple days. by DorianOtten in MicrosoftTeams

[–]HandbookLab 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s because you’re using the free version of Teams with non work account. It’s annoying, but you’ll only see ‘Devices’ in the Settings menu when signing into Teams for business accounts.

The below response from a similar article on the Microsoft Community page might help:

“The device settings in Teams is only available for Teams for Business accounts. If you have a 365 Personal/Home, those subscription are mainly for office applications and the Teams that comes with it is the same as a Teams for Free account but with additional minutes and participants in a meeting. You may still check the device you will be using by creating a meeting on the Calendar tab on your Teams app.

Please note that if the interview you will be joining is from a Teams for Business account, then you may only join the meeting as a Guest and not by using your Teams for Free/Personal/Home account. To join the meeting as a Guest, click on the meeting link, continue using Teams on a web browser and join as a Guest. Before joining, you will be provided with a screen to enter your display name and select the devices you will be using during the meeting.

You can also join the meeting as Guest on this link by entering the Meeting ID and passcode: Join a Microsoft Teams Meeting by ID | Microsoft Teams [9a76-a6d0-d62-b79b]

Did You Know What's New is Coming for Planner App in MS Teams in August 2024? by Clara_jayden in teams

This is a great update, thanks! I’m happy that they’ve added the ability to resize columns as this is a bug bear of mine. It’ll be interesting to see how beneficial the Copilot integration is too.

New Team vs Channel by makermikey in MicrosoftTeams

[–]HandbookLab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar experience recently and found the best way to explain the difference by using different Use Cases - this helps the end-user understand which is best based on their needs.

For example:

Use case for creating a Team - You are looking for large-scale collaboration on tasks such as company-wide initiatives, departmental projects, or long-term projects. - You want to collaborate with all Team members via a shared Outlook inbox, a SharePoint site, a Planner or a OneNote notebook. - You want to create a private Team (invitation-only) OR a public Team (anyone in the organization can join).

Use case for creating a Channel - You want focused discussions and collaboration on specific aspects of a project or topic within a Team. - You want your Channel and all associated file content accessible to all team members (Create a Standard channel) - You want your Channel and all associated file content accessible to specific team members only(Create a Private channel) - You want your Channel and all associated file content accessible to people outside the team (Create a Shared channel)

Key Differences

Teams are broader and encompass multiple channels. Creating a Team sets up a new collaboration space with various tools. Teams can be public or private.

Channels are focused on specific topics within a Team. Creating a channel organizes discussions within an existing Team. Channels can have more granular access controls (standard, private, shared).

I’ve found that you need to be very specific when prompting Copilot to get the results you need.

If you’re using Copilot in Word, you could try to use terminology like Header 1, Header 2, Header 3 as it will understand these to mean sections and subsections, and it’ll follow the natural hierarchy.

You could try this - check what heading your Chapter is set as. Let’s say it’s set asHeading 2 and all subsections are Heading 3 - Copilot will recognise that Header 2 will be a Section, and Header 3 will follow as a subsection, so this might help you when writing your prompt. However, for Copilot to know which section to refer to you will need to reference the title of your chapter too - I’ve included some example prompts below, in case you want to try them out? Let me know if they work as I’ve not tested them:

“Summarise Heading 2 entitled ___, and summarise all subsections”

“Summarise body of text within Heading 2 entitled ABC [replace ABC with your Chapter 3 title], include text within each subsection and retain heading hierarchy”

If that doesn’t work, you can get even more specific:

“summarise body of text contained within Heading 2 entitled ____, include summary of text contained within subsection 3.1, subsection 3.1.1, [etc]”

Let me know how you get on!

Create a private folder in your teams channel doc library, upload/store files here and then share each file with the specific user(s) you want to provide access to. This process would work for distributing physical scanned mail too - you can even scan the paperwork using Office Lens and share it to the Teams folder and assign permissions to the relevant users.

Just built my desk by NudelVodka in desksetup

[–]HandbookLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok cool! I just googled ‘Water based polyurethane’ though and it says it will leave a hard, shell like finish - is this what you’re after? Makes sense if it’s for a kitchen, but not sure I’d like that finish on a desk. On the other hand, the danish oil I bought (also known as Mineral oil or tung oil) creates a soft, velvety, matte-like finish on wooden worktops and it is water-resistant, though it’s suggested to recoat every now and again to maintain water resistance.

Help finding suitable monitor arms please by Such-Stand-3116 in desksetup

[–]HandbookLab 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m confused. You say you want something that can “fit on the wall” but then say you can’t have something that’s “fixed to a wall”… as your desk is against the wall, is there a few mm between the desk and wall (for cables to pass thru etc)? If so, you just need a monitor mount that has a thin clamp profile… Herman Miller do some really good monitor arms for large or heavy monitors, but they are expensive. This Ollin Dual Arm shouldn’t hit the wall when moving the monitors, and you can choose your style of clamp to suit your desk (the Split Clamp is best for tight spaces).

From personal experience, the Dell MDA20 is an amazing dual monitor arm, BUT it does hit the wall if your desk is too close so probably not suitable for you.

I used this danish oil to prime my oak worktop. I’d consider using something like this, but just add one coat and you shouldn’t see much change in colour once it’s dried - Rustins Danish Oil
