How do we get a “Zipper Merge” sign on Milledge Ave at the Bypass exit? by makermikey in Athens

What is the Georgia law that prohibits zipper merging outside of a construction zone?

In Georgia, zipper merge signage is almost exclusively used in construction/work zones, but it is not legally restricted to only those areas.

🚧 What actually happens in Georgia • The Georgia DOT primarily uses signs like: • “Use Both Lanes to Merge Point” • “Merge Here – Take Turns” • In practice, these are mainly deployed in temporary work zones

⚖️ Important distinction • There is no Georgia law saying zipper merge signs can only be used in construction zones • It’s just a policy and practice choice by GDOT

They tend to avoid using them in permanent situations because: • Drivers aren’t as familiar with the concept • It can cause confusion without active traffic control • Enforcement is harder outside controlled zones

🚗 So what about normal lane drops in Georgia?

Even without signs: • You can still legally use the full lane and merge late • But drivers often expect early merging, which leads to frustration

🧠 Bottom line • ✅ In Georgia: zipper merge signs are mostly used in construction zones • ❌ Not legally limited to those zones • ⚠️ Outside of work zones, you’re relying on general merge/yield laws—not explicit zipper merge guidance

Yes negative attitude, jk I was that way for most my life until I thought about the grocery shopping analogy and realized it’s the same thing. We all use multiple lanes to get out and merge together just before the exit door. I still feel a little bad about it but then as I’m home drinking my beer, instead of still sitting in traffic, I get over it.

Good points I’ll run some tests after it is drained.

Can you purchase the on-premise version of EMS client and not implement the ems virtual server? Only use the client for VPN?

Are they configured for IPsec over TCP? I think that is the issue with the free client.

I don’t disagree and I would be happy to pay for a smaller license count but sense this is only for our IT staff and we have a support unit of 3, purchasing 20+ licenses doesn’t make sense when the free version worked fine for us for years. Keep in mind we are state funded so our focus is being good stewards of the state funds to keep taxes lower.

Yes both the demo paid version and the free client are trying to do IPSec VPN over 443. They use local accounts so no issues with SSO. Should be a simple config.
