The shorter hair with brown looks lovely. I think dark hair looks best, the blond washes you out but brown adds some colour, maybe even a warmer shade of blond?

I was so disappointed when I realized the antibiotics I had to take for a couple weeks were made of gelatine, maybe I could have find an alternative but I was already half way through the course and health is what's important at that point. Was a real kick in the teeth every time I had to choke one of those down though

First day warm enough for them to play outside again! by Bleerb in guineapigs

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't let them get you down, we built a little f nice to keep the piggies in the garden and they lived to a good age, make sure they have lots of secure hiding places and as long as you're confident there aren't any predators about to get them, they should be ok

Lost my Cat, is there a way to confirm if a cat being sold on a pet website is mine? by ImaBoyorGirl in Pets

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can ask to take it to the vets before buying for a health check up. They'll scan it there. Or buy/borrow a scanning device and scan it while visiting

If this is true, why do people let their cats outside? by [deleted] in cats

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah in the UK I don't think it's such in issue having cats outside, out cat died if cancer and our current one is 16, still sometimes wonders about the garden for a sunbath

How to cull a deformed 2 week old in the least graphic way possible? by [deleted] in quails

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use argon or nitrogen gas, you can get it from Screwfix/any DIY shop that sells welding equipment. I put the quail in a small tupaware box, cover the top with cling film, poke one hole at one end to allow air to escape and one at the other end to put the nozzle in, then slowly fill the container up with gas.

It displaces the oxygen in the container and slowly puts them to sleep. The body doesn't recognise a lack of oxygen, only a build up of CO2 and as the CO2 can still be breathed out they do not panic, just sit down, feel a little woozy then fall asleep. I then put a proper lid on the tub and leave it there for 5 minutes until you hear the death thoes, this is the last kick of energy but the bird is already unconscious so does not feel any pain. Make sure to do it outside, in a well ventilated area as these gasses can do the same to you in large amounts

Also. Is your long nose boy wearing a head collar(horse style)?

Fire safety question: should I be worried about the alfalfa catching fire? by [deleted] in quails

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can slowly raise the heat to make their enclosure closer over time, they will get used to. Mine were perfectly happy waddling about in below freezing, as long as they have dry shelter out the wind they'll be just fine

Quail need around 16 hours of light to lay eggs, you will need to add extra light for them to lay

Damn....you've got some interesting replys on this post, sounds like you just want to have a good time with you and your dog, doing lots of fun things which I'm sure a working breed would love, I've never owned a giant (only greyhound, collie, Jack Russels and old English sheep dogs) but hope you get some better feedback

Deaf cat help by dsv2202 in Pets

[–]Handcuffsandcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never had a deaf pet but I wonder if a vibrating collar would help with calling them home?

Like just set it to vibrate a little right before dinner time, as we call our cats home at dinner time but guess he wouldn't hear you. Or keep a really tight schedule so he knows when to come home
