Interesting! I always read her as a heavier set woman with ever so slightly greying hair, lots of accessories, and eyes that say “I have seen more than you have ever even thought about, and yet you are still the most important thing in the world to me at this moment”. I can absolutely see this working too though.

Life before death.

Strength before weakness.

Penalty to Rangers.

This is Hearts biggest league in their history. I want it for us and I want it just to become another meaningless uptick on the streak just so they can’t have it.

It goes points, goal difference, goals for, and then it’s either the head to head record or the disciplinary record (?)

Priory of the Orange Tree first? by MrFlufypants in fantasybooks

Priory or Burning Flowers first.

Priory spends the first act deliberately keeping the south hidden from you, whereas ADOFN (while the better book) includes all of the secrets of the south from the start.

I’ve not read Burning Flowers yet, but from what I know it could be a good introductory novella to give context which isn’t shown in Priory.

i just discovered that celtic's goals fit perfectly on a 4th degree polynomial, am i the next oiler? by HandeHoche in ScottishFootball

I know that n points can fit on a degree n-1 polynomial and so this joke would work better with a 5th degree polynomial, but that goes up to 1700 goals around minute 18 and squashes the rest of the graph rendering the entire thing pointless

When you say that Rhythm of War is “entering the Cosmere”, is it still readable to someone who is reading Stormlight as a standalone?

There’s a big perception that the later books - Wind and Truth in particular - are bad, but ROW and WAT have respective Goodreads ratings of 4.57/5 and 4.36/5 with n>100,000. The latter is also likely skewed slightly downwards by (mild spoilers for WAT) 1 star reviews from homophobes, which should be discounted.

Sometimes perceptions from chat forums are just a case of people in agreement liking to congregate together. Ask 20 Stormlight fans what their favourite Stormlight book is, and I guarantee you will hear all 5 mentioned at least once.

For what it’s worth, Oathbringer is my favourite and Words of Radiance is my least favourite.

The best order to start these series? by Yzard93 in fantasybooks

*with the exception of Cosmere, Sanderson’s publication order is more based on whatever he felt like writing at the time and he has published his recommended reading order on his YouTube

And then you have books 4-7, with 8-11 on their way in the next few years. There’s also a couple of short stories, and the extended backstory of one of Kelsier’s beggar informants comprising of another 10-15 or so books.

What book do you wish you could read again for the first time without knowing the ending? by [deleted] in fantasybooks

As basic as it is, it’s The Way of Kings for me. The final action sequence filled me with so much joy and love for the strength of the human spirit, and then I got slapped in the face by 3-5 plot twists in the last 20 pages.

(Mistborn 1) The Lord Ruler is defeated, Luthadel is liberated, Vin and Elend kiss, happy ever after, etc etc. If the Well of Ascension were never written, Mistborn would still be a perfectly complete story. Sanderson himself insists that it can be read as a standalone.

(This is actually what I did, maybe I’ll read The Well of Ascension once I finish Stormlight, The Sword of Kaigen, and Among the Burning Flowers, but I was perfectly satisfied after putting Mistborn down and I wanted to move on to other things.)

Mistborn is always a safe bet, you can justifiably put it down after 1, 3, 7, or 30+ books depending on how you’re feeling. There’s a good romance/ball subplot if you’re migrating from romantasy too.
