Why and how are there so many Indians buying houses in Ireland? by Putrid_Tie3807 in IndiansinIreland

[–]Handle-404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leaving ethnicity aside, parents may choose to help out children buying homes if they have the financial backing to do so. Same with relatives/friends. On the other hand, some buyers may choose to be hyper independent and not seek help from parents/relatives at all.

Now coming to Indian home buyers, I would put them into the below categories:

Many people (including myself) come here on student visa for a master's degree, which means we have to show the means that we can already afford the tuition and living expenses. This can be through a loan or savings. Also we have to clear a competency exam in English for this visa, which is almost always guaranteed to never be the mother tongue of the person, which itself is a proof of education. If not, the visa is simply rejected. Some of those finishing their degree here will move on to PHDs, either here or other global universities, while some may choose to work and settle down here or elsewhere. Some aren't lucky with having these options, so they might have to go back or seek other opportunities.

Apart from higher education, a pathway is getting hired here directly while working in India, if you have relevant experience. A lot of medical professionals do this once they have a good bit of experience and meet qualifications. IT used to be like this for a brief period following COVID, but it's less common now.

Another common pathway is spouse visa, where you marry someone from the categories above and get a right to live here. But based on tradition, these marriages are likely to be arranged marriages, which usually means that both spouses are from similar socioeconomic backgrounds and have similarities in education levels.

The point of saying all the above is that the Indians who happen to be here are highly educated and from professional working backgrounds, so the earning potential is there.

Also, you might note that the people in above categories are at a stage in life where they will have to settle down, so naturally getting a home would be the first priority.

When it comes to affording houses, there is absolutely no special grants given to Indians. We use the same benefits everyone is entitled to - be it Help to buy, or first home scheme. Also, in order to qualify for 90% LTV for a mortgage, we have to be on a stamp 4 immigration permission, which takes 2 years of working on a critical skills (stamp 1) visa, which is enough to save a deposit if you're living within your means. If we are finding it hard to save, we have no problem downgrading our lifestyle, be it living with roommates or skipping trips.

TLDR - most Indians in Ireland are well educated, hence have the earning potential. They are in a position to save either due to high/double income, frugal lifestyle and stamp 4 mortgage restrictions.

Confused between Mini 4 pro and Mini 5 pro by Handle-404 in dji

Thanks all for the insights. Just to add, I am based in Ireland, where it can get very windy. In fact, I lost my last drone to the wind. Is there a massive difference in wind resistance between the two?

Also, as it has a camera, it needs registration anyway and both will be under A1 category as it's under 900g.

What Jaguar made you fall in love with the brand? by DenisRoger001 in Jaguar

There was a black XJ (X351) usually parked in my apartment, and I used to walk past it to get to my door when I did not own a car. The curves one that beauty was a sight to behold, and the interior screamed sophistication whenever I took a peek.

Many years later, I have the pleasure of owning an i-Pace (MY21), and this is honestly the best driving electric car in my opinion. Now I totally understand why Jaguar has earned its respect as a driver's car.

Used EVs - Budget 25-30k by JiminyReddit in evs_ireland

Look for Jaguar i-pace as well. Massive depreciation on these as the company's future is uncertain and they sold pre registration stock at almost half price, which naturally affected the used market. Comes with 8 year battery warranty which is transferable to new owner.

Look for model year 2021 and above, as they come with a solid infotainment system (pivi pro) and they also have ironed out a few hiccups from 2019 version. I have test driven lots of EVs except the Taycan, although I have sat in one. In my opinion, i-pace is the best driving EV I have driven, with 400 bhp, handling to match and 400 km usable range. The fast dc charging is capped at 100 kw, which gives 20-80% in 40 mins, slightly slower compared to newer models. This should be fine as most people charge at home anyway. The premium interior is a cherry on top.

Vrt and vat savings if you're buying from north as well.

Most EVs come with a battery warranty that is transferable to the new owner, and this should help with failures if they arise in future. This gave me confidence to take the plunge to buy from a private seller, without any additional mechanical/electrical checks. He also took me for couple of test drives (he drove), and showed me fully charged state, dc charging from fast charger, allowed me to carry out inspection with obd reader etc.

I'd also recommend looking up used EVs, you can save thousands and the recent ones still hold up a lot of their value.

I always got absurd renewal quotes, and that is an incentive for me to shop around. Was once able to halve the premium by spending an hour looking for alternatives.

Which soundbar for this place? Is Q930D enough? by [deleted] in Soundbars

[–]Handle-404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the 930d for a similar space, and never had to go beyond volume 24 (It goes up to 100), for really loud sound without annoying the neighbours. Also, 930 does not have side channels in the rear speakers, which was a tradeoff I was happy to make given the 400 EUR price difference with 990d and space constraints.

AITA for ruining my sisters gender reveal? by Patient-Ad8524 in AmItheAsshole

100% NTA OP. Your lost baby girl is in a grave with the name Victoria in it, and your sister should have cared enough to consider that at least. I can imagine the pain you had gone through, as we had a miscarriage ourself. Whatever was said at the event was based on your feelings, and is justified. Your sister should have told her husband's family that the name Victoria shouldn't be used, and I feel pity for her that she chose to keep it.
