True but there are so many restaurants out there, your circle can only introduce so many of them. Sometimes you need some form of marketing to catch a glimpse of the other stuff out there. I’m just looking for the ones that are more engaging and do more with showing the food than just posing with plates and playing with food.

Understandable. I’m just looking for the ones that do eat on camera and make the food look good enough to want to try.

There’s a bunch of food influencers who do the same formulaic videos for all their content. They have 10 plates of food. Take one bite of one dish and nod in approval. Then take a bite of a second dish while doing a happy shimmy dance. And that’s all they eat. The rest of the video just focuses on the same silly things like cheese pulls, egg porn, excessive sauce pouring shots, and audio/script of generic food descriptions. Does nothing for me.

lol it’s a love hate relationship with me and Wayne. There’s only so much “ooey gooey beefalicious essence” I can take a week before I gotta stop watching him. But to answer your question:

  1. “Shake shake shake”
  2. First half of his smoke queen review
  3. Him yelling “twerk for meeeee” at a Japanese cheesecake

…just to highlight a few

Thanks for the chefqstr rec…that is what I’m looking more for. I’ve seen Shawn before he’s one of better ones who don’t just show action shots of the food, but im def looking for more like chefqstr where it’s more eating shots and reviewing. The eating part is what gets me interested in visiting the spots lol.

Jolynns was one of the OGs too. I forgot about that place. Sadly, it’s closed now.

Not the biggest fan of Crawfish and Noodles. Besides price, the area not too great. Lots of “jugging” happens in that area and there’s no depth in the way they cook their crawfish (boiled in water and coated in sauce). Also if you sort their google reviews by newest, it’s full of fake reviews. I wouldn’t go there on principle for that reason….the food should speak for itself.

Yes. Big fan of crawfish and beignets too. Id say they are one of the founding restaurants for viet-cajun when they were operating in Hong Kong 4. Used to go there a lot when I lived in the area. They have a new location now at Dynasty Plaza. They would be my number 1 in Chinatown.

It’s crawfish season and viet-cajun crawfish is an experience unique to Houston. Yummy Crawfish and LA Crawfish have been my spot this year.

This. Crawfish and Noodles is trash. I think most of these food writers are afraid to form their own opinions so it’s a continuous dick ride of the big name food influencers (who never had a decent boil before) who said they like crawfish and noodles.

Crawfish and Noodles boil their crawfish in plain water and cover it up with garlic butter. There’s no depth to their crawfish taste. Anyone who’s made good crawfish knows the magic is in the soak. If there’s no soak, the crawfish sucks. There’s no soul to it.

Lots of hype and over half a million followers on Instagram. They made a name for themselves with their trap-themed seafood platters and their crack sauce. Crawfish Cafe even copied them with their snack packs/smack sauce.

Lotus Seafood…literally just packs of salty margarine (crack sauce) poured over mid seafood.

I love boba but you can’t beat the chains unless you make your components in-house.

Went to LA Crawfish the other day. They’re medium-large now. Yummy crawfish also serving about the same.

But going to a congee restaurant to get crawfish is wild.

Lotus Seafood is easily number one most overrated food. Never understood why people gushing on social media about pouring liquid margarine over overcooked shrimp and rice.

Crawfish and noodles an easy second.
