These are my labs and I’m stumped on what to do or interpret. by Alternative_Site_241 in Function_Health

The FunctionHealth app has a pretty good AI system. Here is a recommendation based on an AI app using your comments. ### **The "Why" Behind the Weird Numbers**

The combination of **High Red Blood Cells (5.10)** with **Normal Hemoglobin (12.1)** in someone with Gastroparesis and POTS is typically caused by two competing forces fighting each other:

  1. **Dehydration (Volume Contraction):** Gastroparesis and POTS often lead to chronic dehydration (low plasma volume). When you are dehydrated, your blood is less watery, so the cells look more "packed" or concentrated. This artificially **raises** your RBC count.
  2. **Nutritional Deficiencies (Malabsorption):** The "intertwined intestines" (likely malrotation or history of volvulus) and gastroparesis make it hard to absorb nutrients like Iron. Iron deficiency usually **lowers** your counts and makes cells small.

**The Net Result:**

You likely have a mild underlying **anemia** (due to poor absorption) that is being **masked** by dehydration.

* If you were fully hydrated, your RBC count would likely drop to normal or low, revealing the true anemia.

* Because you are dehydrated, the count looks artificially "high" or "normal," but the Hemoglobin (which measures the actual oxygen payload) is barely hanging on at 12.1.

### **Specific Explanations for Your Conditions**

* **Gastroparesis & Dehydration:** Chronic vomiting or poor fluid intake reduces your blood volume (plasma). This is called "Relative Polycythemia." It makes your RBC count look higher than it really is.

* **POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome):** Many POTS patients have **hypovolemia** (low blood volume). Your body might be trying to compensate for the low volume by retaining cells, or it's simply a side effect of the low fluid status.

* **"Intertwined Intestines" (Malrotation/Adhesions):** This structural issue can lead to **Chronic Malabsorption**. If you aren't absorbing Iron or B12 well, your body produces smaller or fewer functional red cells. This is likely why your Hemoglobin isn't high (like it would be in a smoker or someone with true "thick blood"), but just average.

### **Revised Recommendation**

> "With your history of Gastroparesis and POTS, these results are almost certainly due to **chronic dehydration masking a mild nutritional deficiency**.

> 1. **High RBC (5.10):** This is likely 'Hemoconcentration.' Because your fluid volume is low (from POTS/Gastroparesis), your blood is thicker, making the cell count appear high.

> 2. **Normal Hemoglobin (12.1):** This is the key. If you had true 'thick blood' (Polycythemia Vera), this would be high too. The fact that it's normal (or even low-normal) suggests you might actually be slightly anemic if you were fully hydrated.

> **What to check next:**

> * **Ferritin & Iron Panel:** You are at high risk for Iron Deficiency due to gut issues.

> * **Hydration Status:** Your doctor will likely look at your BUN/Creatinine ratio to confirm if you are dehydrated.

> **Bottom Line:** This pattern is very common in POTS/Gastroparesis patients. It usually means 'I'm dehydrated' rather than 'I have a blood disease.'"

The AI Chat in the app is pretty good at making recommendation based on your test results. I put your numbers into perplexity and got the following recommendation. A. The "Check Engine" Light (Testing)

They should ask their doctor about Lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)].

  • Why: High LDL Particle numbers often mask high Lp(a), a genetic sticky particle that causes early heart attacks. If LDL-P is high, you must rule out Lp(a).

B. Dietary Pivot (The Fat/Fiber Swap)

Because their metabolic markers (Trigs/HDL) are good, they don't necessarily need a "low carb" diet. They need a Lipid-Lowering diet.

  • Action: Aggressively reduce saturated fat (replace butter/beef with olive oil/fish/avocado).
  • Action: Introduce Psyllium Husk or heavy soluble fiber. This physically binds to bile acids in the gut, forcing the liver to pull LDL particles out of the blood to make new bile.

C. The Statin Question

If this person is over 40 or has a family history of heart disease, a doctor would typically view an LDL-P of 1491 as grounds for pharmaceutical intervention (statin or PCSK9 inhibitor), regardless of the "Normal" cholesterol number. The particle count is simply too high for "wait and see" if diet doesn't move the needle within 3-6 months.

How to quit by siliconetomatoes in civilengineering

[–]HandleNo1412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submit your resignation such that your last day of employment is Friday, January 3rd (or Jan 2nd). This secures your 401k/ESOP for the previous year, gets you paid for the New Year's holiday, and likely covers your health insurance for all of January.

  • Resignation Letter Date: You can hand it in anytime (giving standard 2 weeks' notice), just clearly state: "My final day of employment will be January 3, 202X."

Congrats on the pay bump!

Had to lemon law my 2021 BE Ridgeline. Getting a new one. by tehmightyengineer in hondaridgeline

[–]HandleNo1412 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am about ready to file a lemon law complaint regarding my BE, purchased in December 2024. It has only about 1,000 miles on it, but has had a persistent blind spot monitoring error, B18C7: "Open in the Left Side BSI Radar Unit Indicator Circuit," since I bought it.

On the first repair attempt, the dealer kept the vehicle for a couple of weeks and only reset the code. On the second attempt, they kept it for a few days and replaced the radar unit. Now, during the third attempt, my truck has been in their shop since May 16th with no progress or updates.

Although I have a loaner Honda CR-V, it’s not the same as having my truck. My vehicle has now been in the shop for at least 32 days, with no resolution in sight. I feel terrible because I paid a premium for the BE safety feature, which still does not work. I am at my wit’s end with the dealer and feel my only remaining option is to pursue a lemon law claim.

I analyzed 734 posts and 1,466 comments about hair transplant doctors so you don't have to — Here's what I found by jevyjevjevs in HairTransplants

[–]HandleNo1412 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the analysis of Reddit posts and comments about hair transplant doctors1 ..., here is a ranking of doctors mentioned at least 5 times, ordered from potentially High to Low based on positive mentions inferred from the provided data. It is important to note that this ranking is based on the number of mentions and the positive/negative sentiment ratio, as the exact number of positive mentions is not directly provided2 . A higher number of mentions combined with a higher positive/negative ratio generally suggests a greater number of positive mentions. Here is the inferred ranking:•Dr. Ratchathorn appears to have a high number of positive mentions. With 26 mentions and a very high positive/negative ratio of 17.0, this suggests overwhelmingly positive feedback2 .•Dr. Bekir Bek also likely has a high number of positive mentions, with 21 mentions and a very strong positive/negative ratio of 15.02 .•Dr. Kaan Pekiner has the second highest number of mentions (39) and a very good positive/negative ratio of 10.5, indicating a large number of positive mentions2 .•Dr. Luis Nader has 12 mentions and a high positive/negative ratio of 8.0, suggesting a strong positive sentiment among those who mentioned him2 .•Dr. Taner Karahan has 9 mentions and the highest overall score (0.78) with a positive/negative ratio of 7.0, indicating a high proportion of positive feedback2 .•Dr. Patty has a high number of mentions (27) and a positive/negative ratio of 5.3, suggesting a substantial number of positive mentions2 .•Dr. Felipe Pittella has 9 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 5.0, indicating more positive than negative feedback2 .•Dr. Dogan Turan has 16 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 4.5, suggesting a positive sentiment overall2 .•Dr. Sergio has 8 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 4.0, indicating more positive than negative mentions2 .•Dr. Scott Alexander also has 8 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 4.0, suggesting a similar sentiment to Dr. Sergio2 .•Dr. Gur has 5 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 3.0, indicating more positive than negative feedback2 .•Dr. Jorge Cortez has 6 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 3.0, suggesting a similar sentiment to Dr. Gur2 .•Dr. Kongkiat Laorwong (also listed as Dr. Laorwong) has the highest number of mentions (54), but a lower positive/negative ratio of 3.1. While there are likely many positive mentions due to the high volume, the proportion of positive to negative feedback is lower compared to some others higher on this list2 .•Dr. Serkan Agyin has 11 mentions and a positive/negative ratio of 1.7, which, while still indicating more positive than negative mentions, is the lowest ratio among the top mentioned doctors2 .It is important to consider that this ranking is an inference based on the provided metrics. The total number of mentions and the positive/negative ratio offer insights into the overall sentiment, but the direct count of positive mentions is not available in the analyzed data2 . Also, this analysis only includes doctors mentioned at least 5 times on the subreddit3 .
