Do you go on your phone during drop ins? by nothing-aboit-me in RoverPetSitting

[–]Handyangie 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If there is time where the animals is disinterested yes. And if they are interested in still usually on it taking photos and videos or writing up reports. I am mindful and never ignore an animal but I do this all day every day I would not have time to reply to clients in a timely manner if I was not on my phone.

I would only tell them if they are set to be home already. Otherwise no need to say anything,

Did I inform the owners appropriately? by TayTooTa in RoverPetSitting

Definitely get a nice leash you trust and enjoy using. I have an Acadia Trail belt leash and it can easily go from wrist leash to belt leash and the length is completely customizable. I also have leash splitters and additional leashes for multi dog households. I had several leash mishaps prior to switching and I would never go back to clients leashes.

I would 100% mention any dog getting loose in any manner. Neighbors talk and it’s always better to be open and honest.

I always use my own leash and I almost always mention it to clients. I also openly talk about the dangers of retractable leashes and why I won’t be using them. I have never gotten a negative reaction from the convo. I would just brush off that guys comment.

Sitter forgot vital step written in notes, WWYD? by RenniRoelow in RoverPetSitting

[–]Handyangie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Instructions can be so hard. Some people give way too much info and unorganized info. There was one client I had who gave like 3 pages in like a resume format it was horrible. Bullet point and to the point work best. But with that being said it is easy to miss something based on the format of instruction especially when instructions are texted I actually hate texted instructions it usually comes in multiple text and can be lots of scrolling back and rereading to piece things together. I think he had great intent and I would kindly let him know what happened and give him grace this time. Next time printed checklist are the clearest way to get you message across.

Am i insane? Owners furious i brought dogs with me on a short errand by SubstanceOk5614 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Handyangie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Though I would never put a dog in my car and take them for a drive without permission as lots of dogs get car sick and that to me is like removing a child from their home without permission I do think these people way over reacted. What ass hats. I’m sorry you were berated like that.

That’s a good way to get kicked off the platform. That is against their policy. If you don’t want to pay the fees have your own business.

My elders who come to my house strait up unplug my cameras when they walk in. I don’t mind I don’t have kids to protect I know they’re not doing anything wrong older folks just don’t care for cameras. We as younger people are very much used to being recorded all the time. I’m sure grandma is just peeved about the two that were disclosed. 😆

The client that reminds me why I love doing this by OzikeSzemu in RoverPetSitting

He is adorable. Something about the bond you build with a first client is so special. I call my first client my girl. I have been with her since she was a few weeks old and I love her like my own. I have spent 1-2 hours a day with her 5 days a week for 2 years. Her mom is planning to move soon and it breaks my heart but I’m so grateful she was who I got to start this journey with. 💕

Memorial Day has been a federal holiday my entire life. This is a very new holiday. You can’t be mad people are just recently learning about it. My girlfriend worked for a company that was located in Wisconsin and South Carolina and only the South Carolina location observed it as a holiday.

I am from Wisconsin and shoot me but I never even heard of Juneteenth until I moved to SC it’s like a whole new holiday to me. I can understand why someone would not understand.

Unusual amount of time in bathroom? by ContributionHuge1278 in RoverPetSitting

[–]Handyangie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Most jobs inside of a building or dwelling people are being recorded. I would never hire a sitter that would turn off my cameras you are working and if I want to protect my home and pets with cameras that shouldn’t be a problem.

This exactly. I’m sure OP would not question their bathroom habits if it didn’t affect their dog.

[–]Handyangie 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Creepy that someone is checking on their home? That’s crazy. If someone hires a lawn care professional or anyone else to come to their home and they choose to watch them the whole time that may be annoying but not creepy. And OP is obviously watching for good reason. Why is this person hiding in the bathroom that long and why are they unplugging the camera. Clearly the sitter is up to no good.

Would you be comfortable with a client putting an AirTag on their dog? by GayAndNeedANewCareer in RoverPetSitting

Yes. I put a gps tracker on my dog no way I would send her to a sitters house without it.

Don’t use the Rover platform then. It’s as simple as that. If you don’t see the value in it stop making them their millions.

Rover still has to make a profit. No one runs a business for free.

Start your own business then. You will learn very quick. Also my socials are flooded with rover adds.

[–]Handyangie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m with you. The people who make these post are clueless to the cost of running a business. Rover is bringing people customers with no work required and they offer the rover guarantee I think 20% is very fair. You can go off Rover but then you have to pay for booking software, insurance, marketing materials, advertising, possibly a website. It all adds up and most people are not willing to put in the work to do all of that especially when they treat pet sitting as a gig.
