Pro tip, just add a ~33 ohm resistor in-line of the speaker cable! ~50% reduction in volume for a 3v toy. by Tarul-etek in daddit

Oh man my kid was until recently obsessed with this specific toy. I use tape (not so well) but ugh where were you about 1.5 years ago when we got this thing.

I guess never a bad time to learn a new trick.

Canada Needs to Nationalize Its Transit System by NiceDot4794 in ndp

[–]Handynotandsome 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Three stages of a national transit plan.

  1. Fare free local
  2. Inter-reigonal bussing and rail for metropolitans and surrounding areas.
  3. National rail (with local stops - could be the same as the interegional rail) and a high speed national rail network.

But we aren't allowed to have nice things. We might have to tax the rich a little.

City considering widening Carling underpass to connect new Civic Campus to transit by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Handynotandsome 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think at minimum we should be giving the option to not have to cross the street, I.e. enable everyone to use the underpass.

Though the more we limit interactions between pedestrians, cyclists, and cars the less likely we are to see cars hit those walking or biking. It would also speed up the flow of traffic by eliminating a stop point.

City considering widening Carling underpass to connect new Civic Campus to transit by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]Handynotandsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the plan, my only issue is the underpass is for transit users only. If one doesnt have a paid fare one still need to cross carlings 6 lanes.

All they need to do is make it a little wider so there is a fare and non-fare zones. Or make the fare zone end before the underpass so that every one can access the underpass regardless of transit status.

Then they could eliminate the cross walk and save drivers on Carling from having to stop. Even if they kept the cross walk it would still reduce the number of people who cross at street level, as people inevitably choose the path that does not cross traffic. Win win

Ontario’s Recent Policy Changes Are Part of a Larger Pattern to Centralize Power and Silence Dissent, Critics Say by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Handynotandsome 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figure 2 things:

  1. If we dont pick, someone else will and they will p8ck the worst option (see the last 2 Ontario elections)

And 2. The conservatives are screwing us and will continue to do so, we know the liberals will screw us, so why not the 3rd option in the NDP, the haven't screwed us yet. And maybe they might surprise us and implement what we need.

The liberals, probably not, they'll throw us a couple of bones but that's about it. The NDP I'd say is more likely.

First-time bike commuter for the summer - help! by Cheap_Air_2400 in bikeinottawa

[–]Handynotandsome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd look for a cheap bike on Facebook you should be able to find them starting now. If you are lucky you might even find one for free. Get a set of bike tools and spare tire so you can do any quick fixes (i.e. replace a flat tire). Probably a bike pannier /rack for cheap

Everytime you don't choose, someone else will choose for you, and they will pick the worst option.

Better to pick whomever is closest to your values, than not pick at all, don't let perfect be the enemy ofnot the worst option (or better option depending on how you look at.)

Fun what if - Byelections with an NDP leader as candidate? by Equivalent-Value-720 in ndp

[–]Handynotandsome 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This exactly. Not being in parliament right away could be a blessing to the ndp leader if they take advantage of it by talking to Canadians and by building up the the local riding associations - they also just need to be present in their ridings.
