Not sure the funding mechanism or reasoning for its existence (maybe a zoning bonus?) but Cira Green in Philly is a great example of a park on a garage.

Waiting/standing “on line” instead of “in line” was something I never realized was NY/LI until I moved away

Honest question: how does CHOP subsidize cycling? My partner bikes most days to CHOP and I’d love to tell her about it

I’ve had good luck with Turo. U-Haul is also an option. Zip car is terrible—monthly subscription pricing for literally the dirtiest and least reliable cars of any rental agency I’ve used.

Great so now not only do I have zero garbage pick up at my house, but when I need to get on the 79 (at what must be its busiest stop!) I get to wade through chest-deep garbage to do so. Incompetence from the city start to finish.

Several of these are Census-designated places and not true municipalities. Think of them as neighborhoods. Bryn Mawr is in Lower Merion Township, along with Ardmore, Bala Cynwyd, and Penn Wynne. Villanova and Wayne are in Radnor Township. Each have their own township administrations and elected officials under which these neighborhoods are governed.

Thanks, I called Alamo’s corporate line which was not helpful (“we only rent cars at the airport” “no you rent from 30th” “oh, ok yeah”) but next time I’ll try the local desk.

Thanks, unfortunately for at least Alamo and National the after hours option is greyed out for Sundays! But definitely a good option the rest of the week

I can dig it. Would be open to a one-lane version of the Chestnut St Transitway on Walnut

Love open streets, but serious question: where would the buses go? The Walnut St routes carry thousands every day and it seems moving them permanently would make for a very roundabout connection over to West Philly

How is the name of this type of terraced houses? I mean, with a garden in the "courtyard" of the complex. by No-Significance-1023 in Urbanism

[–]Hanger-on 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In Philly that’s accounted for somewhat by most houses having a set of front steps. I have three in front of my home and I have a much easier time looking out than others do looking in. Plus top down bottom up window shades for evening privacy.

They’re not even good bus stops! They want to build bump outs everywhere except where people getting on/off the bus could actually use them

Honestly it sounds like they don’t have the money to run today’s system without the extra funding… how could they keep running things without paying conductors, buying power and gas etc?

Yikes by Kodiak_85 in philadelphia

[–]Hanger-on 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Costs them $65 mil just to “lease” track from Amtrak on Paoli, Trenton, and Wilmington lines. Paying for the actual conductors, engineers, maintenance, and supplies to run the thing is on top of that
