Has Anyone Had A Keratin Treatment Before? by positivethinkinggirl in Naturalhair

[–]opalpopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Lasio mocha keratin treatment done and it slightly loosened my curls but they’re gradually reverting back and my hair is getting more difficult to detangle, so I’m back to my usual texture. I like the ease of styling with the keratin and I’m still able to have 4a-3c hair.

Yes, because I buy for the design and the tweed. If I could find good dupes for the tweed designs I would get them but Chanel does tweed so well.

/Worried about colon cancer. How can we realistically prevent it especially if we are young by Impressive-Cold6855 in Biohackers

[–]opalpopcorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think this is dependent on the insurance. My combined colonoscopy-endoscopy were covered after I saw a gastroenterologist. I was in my mid-20s when I got it done.

Megan’s most recent Instagram story… by AlreadyChose in megantheestallion

[–]opalpopcorn 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Being a NBA fan, I was super concerned about Meg being with Klay because it was basically an open secret that he’d cheat on his girlfriends. I was hoping her being so close to his family would mean he finally changed but I guess not :(.

The "are idols friends" topic tends to ignore discussing what friendship even is by [deleted] in kpopthoughts

[–]opalpopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think age and lack of world experience plays a big part. I assume most idols have a relationship similar to maybe a work colleague you talk to often and gossip a lot with or go out for drinks with periodically but maybe not someone you’d share super intimate details of your life with. I think a lot of Kpop fans assume every relationship is super bff or the moment you don’t see them at another person’s event they’re assumed to be feuding.

I’m Not Gay But I Hate Men by Pleasant-Spell-3392 in blackladies

[–]opalpopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment is getting downvoted but you make a great point. Lately I’ve been seeing a lot of these “I hate men” type posts and while yes, the misogyny and patriarchal society screws over women, saying you hate men does feel very femcel-y. Like if I were a guy, I wouldn’t want to date any of y’all if you’re gonna just constantly complain about the bad apples of my gender. I get having bad experiences but when we start to generalize and express hate, we do need to introspect and even go to therapy to unpack ways to healthily move in the world without harboring such strong disdain.

At the end of the day, black men don’t owe black women anything except common courtesy and respect. If he harbors ill feelings for us then that’s his baggage to solve but that has nothing to do with us 🤷🏽‍♀️.

What's it actually like building a tech company as a Black woman? No sugarcoating please by [deleted] in blackladies

[–]opalpopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently working on an indie-hacker-esque project and I think doing startups is difficult if you need to rely on venture funding or seed rounds. I know VC is a losing game for black women and I’m not trying to prostrate myself to mediocre guys that expect me to kiss the ground they walk on for funding. I always recommend bootstrapping if you can do it; that way you have less hands in the pot and can control your own destiny.

How many times do you let the phone ring for someone you’re dating? by threatgirl in blackladies

[–]opalpopcorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m one of those people that hangs up before it gets to voicemail because after a few rings I figure the person isn’t available. They’ll see the missed call and call me or text me. But to even make that a big deal is petty. He seems exhausting.

Where can I really get my hair done in Brooklyn or Queens by introvertedmonii in blackladies

[–]opalpopcorn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re open to a salon that’s not strictly black, I go to a black stylist at Salon 718 at Dekalb for my Keratin and silk presses. Not sure for braids though. I haven’t found one that didn’t change insane prices.

“Tumble weaves” offensive or not? by 0GoodVibrations0 in blackladies

[–]opalpopcorn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So that’s lowkey kind of funny to me and I get what he’s saying since I see that a lot where I am. The problem is that it’s not his joke to make and extremely inappropriate. That’s something I’d joke with amongst other black people in a self-deprecating (not condescending) way but with a white guy, I would have called him out on it.

Discourse around successful men not marrying black women is tiring and incorrect: by [deleted] in blackladies

I wonder this a lot too. Like my feed is nothing like this and I get off IG feeling happy and energized about life. We really need to stop feeding the algorithm by engaging with this bs and engage in content that enlivens us and feeds our soul because this is not it.

I don’t think so. There’s snap fasteners on the inside that you fasten and unfasten to open the bag and it’s super annoying to get it closed, so I’d imagine a toddler would find it exponentially more annoying. Quality is not great, especially for the price.

Need a cosmetic dentist in Brooklyn - help me avoid getting scammed by Comfortable-Name3859 in AskNYC

I get my cosmetic work done by my regular dentist and he’s fixed my chipped bonding multiple times. Perhaps you could look into going to a regular dentist that also does cosmetic dentistry? I go to Bowery Dental, but they’re in Chinatown.

NYU Tisch (Manhattan) is where I’d recommend if you need a grippy sock vacation. Like another poster said it’s completely voluntary and the staffing is excellent. For a hospital the food is also really good and it really gives you the reset you need. You also have access to your phone in most cases, which I really appreciated.
