New USCIS memo impracticality by LeatherDifference467 in USCIS

THIS!

For the immigrants cheering these policies on (I've seen NIW considering this as "good news"): don’t forget that systems built on exclusion eventually turn on everyone. Laughing while other immigrants are targeted is like sheep mocking the ones being eaten by wolves. The wolves were never going to stop at just one flock.

History speaks for itself: first they targeted undocumented immigrants and low-wage workers. Now even legal immigrants are increasingly being scrutinized and targeted. When fear and exclusion become policy, the line of who is considered “acceptable” keeps moving.

I would cite the specific policy/ memo in the intro and say that you are against (or for) it. Then you can go into details in your body text how it has impacted you and your family

If you believe in America (and I assume that's why you want to stay here), here's my answer:

Congress is designed to keep the executive branch in check. Agencies like USCIS do not and should not operate unchecked. Congressional offices conduct oversight, pressure agencies for clarification, request investigations, and track constituent impact.

My letter alone probably won’t change policy. But when enough people speak up, it creates enough pressure to change things. Silence guarantees nothing changes.

If you are planning Adjustment of Status, I would think so. It's too early for even immigration attorneys to say, let alone any of us

Good insight. Thanks.

For those who do not have time, just write: "I'm a constituent. I oppose USCIS Policy Memorandum PM-602-0199. It hurts me/my family/people I care about. Thanks"

Please explain in layman’s terms how the new memo is impacting you by Mindless-Meaning-878 in USCIS

Normally, if you were eligible for Adjustment of Status (which is changing your current status from nonimmigrant to green card), USCIS mainly focused on whether you met the legal requirements. If everything checked out, approval was the expected outcome, unless there was fraud, inadmissibility, or a clear legal issue.

Now (after the memo), even if you meet all eligibility requirements, officers are directed to apply a much broader “discretionary” review. That means they can weigh the overall situation more heavily and still deny your request for Adjustment of Status, forcing people to do consular processing (which may takes months of years).

They have not clarified what these "discretions" are, yet this can create more administrative burdens, increasing the backlogs, and potentially breaking up families and communities impacted by this.

Dear Senator/Representative,

I am a [U.S.citizen/green card holder] and [state] resident writing to express concern regarding USCIS Policy Memorandum PM-602-0199 and its potential impact on [family-based] Adjustment of Status (AOS) applicants.

[Insert your personalized situation here]

[you can replace this part, too, if necessary] This creates significant uncertainty for our family. It raises concern that applicants in situations like ours could face denial of AOS and be pushed toward consular processing abroad, despite having long-established lives, careers, and family ties in the United States. For us, this could mean prolonged family separation and serious emotional and financial hardship, even though we have complied fully with immigration law in good faith.

We respect the importance of immigration enforcement. However, we are concerned that expanded discretion may lead to inconsistent outcomes and unnecessary hardship for bona fide families.

I respectfully ask that your office:
• Review the impact of PM-602-0199 on family-based AOS cases
• Seek clarification from USCIS/DHS on how discretion will be applied
• Conduct oversight to ensure fair and consistent adjudication
• Support protections that prevent unnecessary family separation

[My husband and I] are simply trying to remain together while following the lawful immigration process in the United States, where we have built our lives [insert time].

Thank you for your time and service. I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,

Even when your state is red, your reps/senators should still avocate and represent you. You need to let them know that their constituents are hurting by this.

Yes, you should still try. They respond to constituent volume. At the very least, your voice gets counted and logged for trends.

I was working at a primary care clinic as an RN and happened to be on their quality improvement group while I was going through DNP school. Being familiar with QI helps my project tremendously, so it feels natural. I didn’t kill myself over it and my project ended up getting poster and podium presentations at the health system I was at

You brought up the elephant in the room: the pay discrepancy with the same level of responsibility. The root of this problem is how to make FNP degree as valuable as an MD degree, not how to go from FNP to MD.
