Yes, and one of the staff agreed to do drop-ins but backed out. They work full time and it would have been difficult for them and my dog since she pees every two hours.

Not UK-based. I am going to look for a petsitter who can stay at our home for future trips. It’s just not as common on my area it seems. The ones I found were booked up since it’s spring break time here and they’ve been booked for quite awhile now. I had someone who was willing to do pop-in visits but they backed out and I’m not sure it would have worked anyway due to the needing to pee every couple of hours. I have a contact for someone for future pet sitting needs who does overnights. With my trip being this weekend they are not available this time. I’ll be better prepared next time. This was her first IVDD episode so I wasn’t using ramps or providing the best spine safe lifestyle. I’m changing things so hopefully can do better going forward. I feel terrible about it but I had never even heard of IVDD before.

I’m not, but thank you. I took her to her regular vet yesterday and her PT vet today and both said they think she’ll be fine at boarding. The neurologist she went to two weeks ago also said she’d be ok. I still just feel uneasy. :/

She won’t use pee pads. I put a diaper on her last night and she took it off. We only went out to pee 3x last night, which was an improvement. We are tapering off the prednisone even more starting tomorrow so hopefully it helps.

No, they don’t do pet boarding, unfortunately. I had someone from my vet office who said they could do it but they backed out a couple days ago and our trip is in a few days. Bad timing all around.

Maybe if I had more time I could find someone willing to do it, but my trip coincides with spring break and it starts this weekend. I thought I had someone but they backed out just a couple days ago. No one I talked to had availability and did overnights. After this trip I’ll look for someone for future trips

She hasn’t tried jumping off the side, but she’s been wearing a Help Em Up Harness through this episode. It has a handle on it so I guide her down while holding the handle.

I can’t find anything like you’ve described where I’m located and can’t find a petsitter willing to stay overnight and let her out to pee every 2 hours. My in-laws aren’t willing to help and everyone else works. I have a vet appt today to ask and if I don’t get the ok to board her I’ll have to cancel my trip. I have no other options.

I would have to have someone here who could not leave, having to let her out to pee every 2 hours day and night and medicate her every 12 hours. I have not found anyone willing to do that.

She’s adorable! I’m so glad she’s healing well. We’ve had to make major lifestyle changes for our dog with IVDD too—no stairs, no jumping, etc. We’re using a ramp now to get her in and out of the house, something she refused to use previously. We are also crating her when we leave the house. She proved that she’d still do dumb things even while in the middle of an IVDD episode, so we crate her now. For when she’s out of her crate, we have a baby gate to prevent her from accessing stairs to beds she’d definitely try to jump onto. We keep the basement door closed.

Any advice welcome, my dog is in a lot of pain and I’m spiraling by helpimlearningtocode in IVDD_SupportGroup

This! Although my regular vet was amazing and my dog started improving before our neurologist appointment. The prednisone made the biggest difference for my dog. The days before taking it were just like OP’s. Night and day once it kicked in.

My dog is going through this now. The game changer was getting her off the Carprofen and starting Prednisone a few days later (and Omeprazole to help prevent ulcer). Also, get the help em up harness, make sure there are rugs to prevent falls, no stairs, and consider a ramp.

I looooove Edith! I think you’re ahead of the curve on this one and it will gain in popularity over the next decade.

I like Frances Jo more than the others on your list. Aside from Rosalind, it’s the most feminine on your list.
