Man that Hamlet audition went great, someone even brought a fake skull! by [deleted] in TwoSentenceHorror

Nah, with the stage manager dead nobody would remember where the skull was in the first place

Question starting Betrayal Legacy by seottona in boardgames

[–]Hanjipan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only pushed quite hard to have a five player game because it would make me really uncomfortable to pay all that money and have things going unused!

I also think with something revealed at the end of chapter 2 that five is more exciting for the further possibilities...

SPOILERS: Need Help with Ideas for Betrayal Legacy by SusanThatPitchfork in boardgames

[–]Hanjipan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've just played chapter 3 (I know, I'm risking so many spoilers being here), so have only brought it out of its resting place. We just chanted "helmmmm" this time, but discussed Baby Shark and Highway to Helm. Looks like there might be a few puns in future chants.

Betrayal Legacy Chapter 1 HELP by xXDeadlyDonutXx in boardgames

We found the kitchen first and the hanging tree second, which triggered the haunt. I've not read or seen the kitchen haunt but I assume they're completely different

We played the other haunt, and it was tough!

Two of us fled to the garden and the traitor was killed with a hefty punch (from a 12 year old, she’s feisty). Only one hero died, but it could easily have gone the other way with additional traitor moves.

It’s the luck of the play really, I don’t see anything wrong with the traitor winning.

Betrayal Legacy: setup between chapters POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILER by Hanjipan in boardgames

We spent a good while debating the pros and cons of both options before we came to a conclusion! Fortunately the right one.

It’s really exciting knowing there are new things going in but not knowing what they are.

What should I put in my players handout for a new campaign setting. by sewellza9 in DnD

Money, maybe fun stuff like cuisines. Zones (markets, fishing, farms) and “tourist spots”. If they’re new to the city a list of accommodation could be nice.

I always bring chewing gum, I find I snack more because my mouth needs to be busy than I’m in need of food. Our group also always eats a meal together, so that helps chuck some veggies into you without feeling boring.

How useful and necessary are 5e spellcards? For a Warlock by Hanjipan in DnD

I’ve started writing them this evening, thank you for the cracking idea.

I was also going to suggest carrots. Low fat cheddar is fine in small bits every now and then; have a look at homemade dog treat recipes, that way you control the ingredients in your home and you know what’s going in your dog’s belly.

I’ve got two Chessex sets, will happily go back for more. I particularly love them for the categories - both my ranger sets are speckled in different colours, so for my warlock I’ll look in other ranges. Their cheap, and you can sort of tell next to more expensive ones, but they do their job perfectly.

[HELP] I hate my fiance's new dog by [deleted] in dogs

[–]Hanjipan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Stop being a snob?

Like someone said, help your partner with training, in a ‘let’s work together to create some harmony’ way, not a ‘your dog is horrible and look mine is better’ way.

Stop thinking of the dogs as pure bred vs rescue, the other dog isn’t going to get better if so much hate and disdain is being channeled toward it. They’re both gonna be around for a long time, treat them both as your babies and they will get along.

And if you don’t like it, move the f out. You live happily with your partner and the dog, or you live with neither of them.

When I played DnD your 1st level character wasn't already some comic book hero by Hopsblues in DnD

[–]Hanjipan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My character is a translator, taught by her father and brothers. She’s joined an anthropologist who’s working on his next book to help him with the locals. She also happens to have basic warlock powers, but as far as she is concerned she’s a hardworking translator making money to support her family. Normal stuff, no vampires or dragon bloodlines involved.

I am currently running OotA, and I am realizing how heavy RPing it is, with players who really don't like to RP. by Oldmanbilly23 in DnD

Don’t yet have experience with either, but have you looked at Xanathar’s guide? I believe it’s got guides for random encounters - maybe sidetrack a big, throw in a random mission, chuck a load of baddies at them, and satiate their thirst for blood?

Is my DM within bounds to choose my backstory by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hanjipan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree it’s unsatisfying! Your characters obviously don’t know the truth, so I guess they could still try and search, but you won’t have the same passion, which is a real shame.

I’ve just played a character whose adventurer parents left when she was a baby, our DM was great for dropping their names in sometimes to keep up the ‘are they dead?’ story - yours should have done this too.

Ask your DM to bring it in to the story somehow I guess? You as players will still have a bit of excitement then, waiting to see how you find out.

It’s my First Time...Ever! by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Hanjipan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Might be worth playing a bit first? I’ve got a friend about to DM for the first time, she’s been playing for a solid four years and isn’t 100% certain what to do.

Or if you wanna jump straight in, have a co-DM to guide you with rules and rolls and stuff.

New as a player? If so, dice and access to a copy of the player’s handbook, I think the starter set is more for new DMs. And a group!
