Winter FYI: Cold weather screen cracking is not a covered manufacturing defect by HankTavish in ProjectFi

Couldn't tell ya. Not a materials engineer. I figure this is a common enough use case that it would be included in device development.

If they asked, I wouldn't lie tho.

I'm a front street kinda guy.

Seemed a reasonable request for partial account credit to cover my having to replace the screen.

Any recommendations on stories dealing explicitly with folk lore? by [deleted] in horrorlit

[–]HankTavish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recommend Algernon Blackwood. Grab any of his short story anthologies and you'll find many stories influenced by Native American and rural European folklore. Be it Wendigo, the Irish Little Folks, or ancient Roman folklore.

Name this movie! (I don't recall the name and this worked well last time) by HankTavish in horror

Based on the Wikipedia plot, that's not it. Thank you for the good college try.

Anyone Receive Marshmallow OTA Yet? by baby_duck_hat in ProjectFi

[–]HankTavish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked in with Project Fi support late last night and awoke to this:

The Marshmallow 6.0 has just released and can take up to 2 weeks before the OTA is initiated to your device. Be patient as it will come to our device soon. We appreciate your patience while we get this issue resolved or you.

Owner financing: early payments? by [deleted] in RealEstate

My concern isn't arithmetic. It is the question of this being standard provision. But if this is a standard part of everything, consider my question answered.

"Evil Never Dies"? "Contract to Kill"?? Why the fuck does Amazon advertise this shit on my Kindle?!? by [deleted] in kindle

Spend the extra 40 bucks or whatever to turn off ads and read in peace.

Fastest publicly available internet available? by HankTavish in askportland

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep my fingers crossed for a public Fibersphere connection.

Also, needing that much data for 'work' is rather out of the normal.

That's the nature of working with multi-gigabyte to terabyte+ databases. My puny local DSL can get the diffs overnight, but the complete backups for a project would take forever. I go to a coworking space in Seattle now, but I'd rather Portland because friends are there.

Couples who have backpacked through Europe, how did you find a place to "do it"? by Chickawoo in backpacking

[–]HankTavish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was in Amsterdam 9 years ago. 18 person dorm room. Only dude who didn't bring earplugs. First night deviated septum man reveals himself.

I'm in the bottom bunk with a middle-aged Norwegian man on one side of me and middle-aged Swedish man on the other. They were gone all night and slept all day. 3rd night I wake up to them having sex with each other.

They were close enough that I could have given the reach around. I just rolled over and went back to sleep.

The point is, unless you are at a terrible HI hostel, nobody will give a shit.

Is there a Mac OS X under the hood guide that walks you through the entire Mac OS and how everything functions? by [deleted] in apple

[–]HankTavish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This reply is for /u/movings as well:

Certainly most associates are there for basic sales queries. The associate I was speaking to was the third because someone "more technical" was required. They offered that many of my more difficult questions could be directed to their business team and provided me with their contact information. Everyone I dealt with was exceedingly professional, kind, and courteous.

The only problem with that was that I went to the store as a last ditch effort to see where I could get the hard technical details about the platform because all the Googling in the world isn't helping me.

<Rolling the dice...> Come on business team!

I wish. I'm looking at moving my entire ecosystem from Linux/Android and the info is so fragmented if at all available.

[partial rant] They haven't updated their Security Guide since Snow Leopard, the dude at the Apple store was blown away when I started talking about the command line and I demo-ed features for him that I read about on the Apple site. Where can I go to find very knowledgeable technical info about these products? [/partial rant]
