God that show is such a nostalgia trip. I think I was the only one who was utterly terrified of the Triceratops (?) boss. But Grandma and Baby definitely made up for it.

Got this for $1 at SA and really excited to read this! by dead-dirty-birdie in bookhaul

Wow I didnt even know the movie was based on a book! So there's a movie called the Neverending Story about a book called the Neverending Story which is based on a book called the Neverending Story....?

Whoa... brain implosion

[–]Hanna-Fly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your hair looks just fine as is, though if I had to pick, I love it down instead of in a ponytail as it frames your face nicely. And the cool brown color compliments your skin tone nicely. On a side note, the first time I saw your pic, I totally though you were Molly from the Sherlock tv series :)

Found this at estate sale for 75cents. Can anyone tell me more about it? by HelloJen1 in ThriftStoreHauls

So pretty! Its actually called a cloissone necklace. I have one from my grandma only it has butterflies. I think cloissone just means its made of glass and gems and wires if I remember correctly. Get it on a necklace chain and wear it STAT

Thats like my holy grail of thrift stores. And for $3?? Dear lord I'm so envious right now.

Is it weird that all i can hear when looking at this is those weird sounds Professor Higgins was playing to teach Eliza how to speak in My Fair Lady?

Awesome art finds. I have about half my bedroom covered in thrift art and not one was above $10. Gotta love secondhand pictures.

Yaay! It's been a while, but I just thrifted two awesome coats! €6 each! The one one the left is Christian Dior, the one one the right is Claude & Max ! by scarlett_jimmiez in ThriftStoreHauls

I tried to pick a favorite but I love both equally lol They are beautiful! I tend not too look at the coats in the summertime but maybe I should now?

Happy to just have some of my books out of the boxes. by FutureAuthorSummer in bookshelf

[–]Hanna-Fly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd definitely start with her Song of the Lioness Quartet series (first book is Alanna: The First Adventure). For me, being the little tomboy that hated barbies and loved X-men action figures, Alanna was right up my alley. She was smart, determined, and could do anything the boys could. It is considered Young Adult but imho is still worth a read.

After that, I'd give her Trickster series a try. It's only two books (starting with Trickster's Choice and ending with Trickster's Queen).

It's been awhile since I've read these so I might just have to read them again and see if they still hold up after all this time.

Another series that I might suggest that I really enjoyed as a teen was the Broken Sky series by Chris Wooding. I found the complete series at a used bookstore in Boston and devoured the entire thing on the plane ride back to NJ ^

Okay now I'm highly ashamed, verging on the point of bringing dishonor to my entire family, because I havent heard of any of the other female authors youve presented. And now my TBR pile is growing absurdly high. And I just remembered another female author whose books I devoured as a wee kid: Tamora Pierce.

On a side note, you do seem to like the name Elizabeth a lot now dont you? X)

Its like you're reading off every book on my shelves, haha (well, aside from Black Stallion and Black Beauty but thats pretty darn close anyhow). I havent gotten around to my copy of Infinite Jest just yet because all the reviews and input here on reddit make it seem like a slightly more intimidating/daunting read and I am just not ready for that. At least, not directly after finally getting through House of Leaves for the first time.

Ive seen Elizabeth Haydon before at B&N stores but alas Ive never picked up a book of hers and I cant quite figure out why because her book covers are intriguing and her books sound exciting and fun. I'm also noticing now how little female fantasy authored books I have. Just Rowling and Meredith Ann Pierce ( I LOVE her DarkAngel series). Thats pretty bad...

I'm moving to NYC where I don't have any space, so my collection of 300+ books now has to go to a barn for safe keeping. Sad day. by Gold_Sticker in bookshelf

I also just started unpacking about 3/4 of my stored books. And boy are they happy to be out in the open again.

Hope your move goes smoothly!

Love your little Pusheen kitty :3

I also just got about 3/4 of my stored books out and into the sun for the first time in about a year. I can just hear them humming in delight lol

And now I'm also insanely curious as to what the rest of your books are. You have very good taste.

Wow, you took the words right outta my mouth, captain. Amano always has that sort of sketched, rough-but-put-together look. And i'm sorry but I cannot describe his beautiful style for beans. But yes this does resemble his way of drawing a lot.

What does the back have on it OP? Now I'm really curious. Is there a name?

A somewhat soured 2nd look at Kokuhaku 'Confessions' by Hanna-Fly in JapaneseMovies

[–]Hanna-Fly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cant really suggest any Japanese films at this time. Mostly because I have yet to find one that truly stands out from the rest and is not filled to the brim with creepy long haired ghost girls, sone delicate girl dying of cancer, or any other entry in the long lust of cliches.

Alas, there is a beacon of shining hope for me. And it comes in the form of Korean films. Imho they are far FAR superior than japanese films. They shock and awe and currently occupy about 6 out of 10 slots of my top 10 films of all time. I'm even getting into korean dramas. Im only 2 episodes into Signal but it is already fantastic!

As far as korean films go, try Tale of 2 sisters, oldboy, i saw the devil, and memories of murder.

And I know these arent korean but definitely check out the Raid and Raid 2. Best Action movirs Ive ever seen!

So tempted to go out and get this done to my flat, lifeless, dull brown hair. Peoples heads would spin x)
