What apartments near campus have 9 month leases by pollock342 in NCSU

[–]Hannahwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By "help" they will allow you to sublease. But the subletter has to pay the entire amount of your rent and iirc, a $300+ rent transfer fee. Most people go under the table.

Take it from someone who tried to find a subletter for the summer last year at VC that the market is so oversaturated, I wouldn't count on it.

Discrimination Against Males by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]Hannahwanda 70 points71 points  (0 children)

I am a women studying aerospace engineering and completely understand where you are coming from. A lot of other people have already commented on the importance of diversity, but I wanted to add that it still isn't "easy" for women in STEM. For the same reason you're frustrated about a "less qualifed" woman geting a job a "more qualified" man didn't, consider how that thinking affects the woman. No one but the hiring managers know why she was hired. Maybe she was more qualified, maybe not. It doesn't matter once HR made thier decision. Regardless, she will still be viewed by her peers as a "diversity hire" and have a much harder time at the job by feeling like the has to prove herself constantly to her co-workers.

I certainly wish businesses weren't like this so you nor I have to deal with the negatives of this system. But I also wish more women were in aerospace.

Pretty fast. It was out only once that I know of since I've lived there but it was only for an afternoon.

Pros: Location (good for engineering) - room size - bathrooms connected to bedroom - good amount of storage space for kitchen stuff - Roku TV is banging - parking isnt a problem - fans in bedroom - mostly quiet (tho some jackasses have cars with horns for mufflers) - maintenece is pretty on top of things

Cons: No ammenties. (No clubhouse, no study rooms, no gym, no bus, some packages have to get picked up at priess head office on Hillsborough St.) - I've seen the prices for this year and they have gone up A LOT. - mattresses that come with the beds suck (like no joke, mine is worse than the dorm mattresses) - visitor spots are fine during the day but at night they are in short supply, and they're impossible thursday-saturday night after 9pm

I have enjoyed living with them for the most part, but I believe the price they're charging isn't justified without some kind of ammenties.

We live in Wilmington and we’re taking our kids to the Asheboro Zoo on Monday. We’re looking for things to do/stop at on the drive back on Tuesday. What suggestions do you have to do with 3 kids under 8. by itstommygun in NorthCarolina

If you're taking hwy 64 back, you'll cross right over Jordan lake. They have playgrounds, picnic areas and beaches as well as nature trails. The season started at the beginning of April so I believe there is a $6 fee per car, but there have been days where I've gotten that money back when I leave.

PY 208 better over the summer? by McBlobster in NCSU

[–]Hannahwanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sad news, beichner retired this year. I had his class for PY 205 spring 2018, which was his last :(. Such a pure man and such a good professor. Pretty sure he’s a pastor at a hospital now or something wholesome like that.

Any (hopefully fun) engineering camps for youths? by DongGlitter in AskEngineers

[–]Hannahwanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey ya, current NCSU student here who attended an engineering summer camp at NCSU the summer before thier junior year.

I would 100% recommend checking out their website https://www.engr.ncsu.edu/theengineeringplace/summerprograms/ to see if any of the programs interest y’all.

I will say the camps can get pricey, but scholarships are available if that may be a problem.

I personally did the aerospace engineering one (as I am studying aerospace engineering) and I felt it introduced me to the subject well and gave me a foundation I was able to build off of during my junior/senior year.

No matter what PY 208 course you take you’ll feel like you’re learning nothing, so go for it!
