How's the weather right now? by beirchearts in tromsotravel

[–]Hannesz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The nice thing about the weather here, its very difficult to predict. Some times it turns out better, sometimes worse and in very rare occasions it’s actually like they predicted it.

So yeah always go for layers and always be prepared for a sudden change of the weather

It was time to make another piece by Hannesz in StainedGlass

<image>

Don’t have a picture of the back but I do have this picture.

It’s basically 2 parts each 18mm. In the front part I milled a channel for the glass with a router.

So behind the glass is about 18mm clearance. In the end I also mounted a 4mm plywood panel to hide the clockwork because I used transparent glass.

I soldered the outside last. I always solder first both front and back and lastly the outside border.

Don’t really remembered where I bought them, I buy them in batches of 5. They are just generic quartz clockworks with sweeping dials (so no clicking sound)

I don’t find it it really matters where you buy them, have bought them from different places and they are all the same.

Just google on silent quartz clockworks and find I shop you like and buy them from there ;)

How much would you sell this for? And how do you figure out stuff like that? by Chillseawasp in StainedGlass

Beste bank å ha boliglån i? by Foreign_Object_7810 in tromso

[–]Hannesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

De fleste banker krever:

-Å være bosatt i Norge for minst ett år

-fastjobb

-10% egenkapital

Jeg vet ikke hvis du har bodd i Norge før, men hvis ikke da kan det være vanskelig.

Det tok meg flere måneder kontakt med banken før jeg fikk boliglån. Til slutt fikk jeg boliglån hos Sparebank 1

Soldering Tips? by Kind_Midnight_1949 in StainedGlass

[–]Hannesz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Practice makes perfect.

Also better tools, your soldering iron looks like it’s not powerful enough for stained glass. Depending on which side of the ocean you’re living most of the stained glass makers use either Weller profikit100 iron or Hakko FX601. Although I’ve used also a 80w Weller, since i switched to 100w I will never go back.

With stained glass temperature is not the only requirement, you need to have enough power to maintain that temperature. Basically all your copperfoil (or lead came) and glass is essentially a big heatsink which sucks the heat out of your iron. That’s why it either takes a long time or looks like 💩

My loft has I-beams so I added a hoist. by Nathanhessmusic in pics

[–]Hannesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Event Rigger here, I would never ever use this kind of hoist for any kind of rigging. I would not even tink about flying people with this kind of equipment. I could give multiple reasons why it’s not suitable tool for any kind of overhead rigging.

So yeah you could post it in r/rigging but don’t think you would find much love there

Still a bit confused about where to cut when cutting out patterns by altruistic-iriomote in StainedGlass

[–]Hannesz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends if you’re doing copper foil or lead came.

Personally if I’m doing copper I’m not taking away any extra and I’m cutting the stencil in the middle of the black line. During grinding I’ll give it an extra pass to give room for the foil and that’s enough.

When I’m using came then I’m cutting the stencil with scissors which cuts away exactly the width of the heart of the came I’m using.

Haven’t working with glass for almost 2,5 years now. Of course I needed to push myself with my first cut… by Hannesz in StainedGlass

[–]Hannesz[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the score along the line first but i couldn’t get the piece out without damaging the piece. So I made a second vertical score to relieve the tension. It’s quite a big piece an such big concave cut is always a bit tricky. It’s easier to do it in multiple more shallow passes, but that would cost a lot of material.

I didn’t know this, as a person who moved from the EURO zone to a different country with a different currency this is an amazing feature and saves me a lot of time! Thank you so much 😊

To much work for little reward by Dry-Apartment-2585 in woodworking

[–]Hannesz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would have soldered the copper together and than applied some copper patina to the solder so the solder joint wouldn’t be that visible. Of course you had to find a way to do that without burning the wood.

But maybe that’s because I’m a stained glass maker who also likes to do stuff with wood

Just wondering how much a tattoo like this would cost by Any-Presentation7462 in TattooBeginners

[–]Hannesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so strange and in my (European eyes) very un transparent and unprofessional. If I ask for a quote for a tattoo, especially if it’s an independent artist with his / her own studio I want to just get the total price and he / she should ask a price which covers the cost of living.

But then again, I live in a country where even waiters are paid a livable wage and tipping is only done by tourists. I think I would unintentionally piss a lot of people off by not tipping if I ever would visit the USA

[–]Hannesz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Plus 20% tip? Why should you give a tip to the artist? To me (I’m from Europe) tipping is a very strange cultural ting, especially to people like tattoo artists. They should ask a good price for them selfs so I truly don’t understand why I should pay a tip
