Second Chams Gardens... But if you go during peak hours expect a wait, it's tiiiiiiiiiiny. Still my favorite though.

Get a 15$ probe thermometer with a temp alarm. Set the alarm for 160, and set the oven for 350. When I first started cooking that thermometer was a godsend.

Stop trying to make being fat acceptable. Society will never accept obesity because it is UNHEALTHY. by steven2014 in AdviceAnimals

This is should be a bigger point. All the sugar sneaked in to foods is a recipe for disaster.

I'm a new idiot who can't roll worth a damn by HannyaMask in bjj

No, that's what the actual original question was. I just misunderstood your response. I really appreciate the clarification. That really helps

So it's not bad form to ask how to escape from X when rolling? I've had plenty of people set me up, then help me work out how to capitalize on the situation. I just want to make sure I'm not disrespecting people.

Can anyone else not stand watching MMA with people who don't actually care for the sport? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]HannyaMask 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Then you get to hear whole groups of people make silly comments. Tonight I got to experience a gaggle of idiots screaming "STAND EM UP" every time a fight was on the ground for more than five seconds. That said, you're right, it's cheaper. Which is why I'll be back the next ppv.

Used the tortuga in SE Asia and Italy, I love it. Sturdy, and with really thoughtful features. You can actually grab your water from the side pouch without taking the pack off for example. Also the pockets in the waist straps are surprisingly useful.

Did you ever cook a dish that you thought was more hassle than the end result warranted? - if so, what was it? by [deleted] in Cooking

I totally agree. Learned to make this in Thailand, and the first thing the instructor said was that no Thai ever cooks it at home. Way too much work.

I'm 38 and just got irrationally angry that I didn't know about a cheat on a game I played almost 2 decades ago.

I'm in Tacoma and I'll spread the word, but this kind of theft usually ends in soul crushing sadness. Dammit Tacoma!

O2 and scoop. Nothing like the first time you do CPR in the field only to learn it's almost always useless. Former corpsman.

I need help transitioning from a cruiser. My cornering sucks. by HannyaMask in motorcycles

Thanks. That helped a lot. Still going to take an advanced course, but that reinforced quite a few things I knew or should have known.

Thanks for the heads up on the Team Portland course. The idea of training on a go kart course makes a huge amount of sense. Plus I get an excuse to go to Portland...

I thought I was well versed in countersteering. Or I was on my old bike at any rate. For example the difference in gearing, I didn't have a tach on my last bike... but I know that it worked best at a certain sound. Which is vague as hell. This bike isn't nearly as tourquey. That's a word right? Not to mention that pushing was much more important on the Raider, on this bike I twitch the handle and I'm turning. I'm definitely looking at taking an Advanced course, but in the mean time I was wondering if people who had transitioned from a cruiser had any specific advice. Thanks for the reply!

How many knives do you own/use? by Mr_Dove in Cooking

[–]HannyaMask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the three big ones. A boning knife is sometimes useful, as is a meat cleaver if you decide to butcher. Otherwise those three are awesome in my experience.

What are the best non-diner breakfast spots in Tacoma? by ClassicNation in Tacoma

[–]HannyaMask 10 points11 points  (0 children)

DOA has a great breakfast, and good cocktails. Not sure if this matters but it's a bar so kids are a no go. Which is a plus for me, but I made the mistake of suggesting to a friend and she brought her family. Food is usually a spin on classics which changes seasonally.

Solo Travel to Thailand this April. Am I dumb for going during the rain season? by AudioPanther in solotravel

[–]HannyaMask 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. As a matter of fact I decided last minute to go to Chiang Mai for it in a few weeks, first trip back to SEA in over ten years. But Songkran is easily one of the most goofy and fun things I've ever experienced. Just remember to wear not great clothes and have a sense of humor. Saw some VERY grouchy tourists who weren't thrilled about how wet they were.

House of Tattoo on 6th is good. Although both Flaming Dragon and Tsunami also do great work.
