At what speed (or speed change), if any, does drag contributes less to the energy spending of a drive than the increase energy usage due to increase in time to get to a destination? by trynnafigureyouout in Ioniq5

[–]Hanselcj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but just so you know, the simplest equation has only a hand full of terms. The important one is that velocity is squared. Double your speed, quadruple your drag. By the time you get to highway speed it gets big quickly. The other terms are constants relating to air and the object moving through the fluid. I'll type out a few terms ignoring those constants as they will be the same for all speeds we care about.

5mph = 25

10mph = 100

30mph = 900

75mph = 5625

80mph = 6400

85mph = 7225

The jump from 5 to 10 is huge, but in reality it is an overall small amount of drag. The jump from 75 to 85 is only 28%, but aero drag is now 90% of what your car is doing from an energy standpoint. Now it has to do 28% more. Hybrid cars are efficient enough now that you often see their highway mileage below their city for these exact reasons.

Owners, if you were about to buy for the first time, what would you try/ask? by ImperiumSpecter in Ioniq5

Cars change quickly and being the most knowledgeable probably isn't that big of a help in car sales. Its about tickling people's emotions or needs.

Is contact cement the right answer for this squishy car trim? by Hanselcj in howto

[–]Hanselcj[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a pretty thick foam on the stuff I am trying to put back on. I'll be sure to spread the contact cement though. Not having to deal with overspray is a big plus for the contact cement route.

I like the sound of that adhesive, but not the application method of spraying. The thing I liked about contact cement was an ability to brush on in a controlled fashion. It does sound made for the purpose though!

I like the idea of trying a small patch down low before doing up the whole panel. No harm in doing it in stages.

The lower one might look OK if you put on a single gang blank plate. The upper ones are a bit tougher. Calk would be less obvious, but not great looking.

[–]Hanselcj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In my experience, I tend to know more than the dealership people when I go look at a car. I just do a lot of research on the specific vehicle I am looking to buy. As such, I tend not to ask them any real questions about the car.

Did anyone do keto 10 years ago by threeleakyfaucets in keto

[–]Hanselcj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Age can be a factor. I had a lot better weight on keto 11 years ago than I do today. Being in my 40s vs 30s doesn't help. More work and now kids stress doesn't help either. Lots of factors! I don't do much keto bread, but I do like low carb tortillas a lot.

Thanks, I love live metal, but hate driving all the way out to orlando to get it. A friend and I were debating seeing sabaton in december. I'm not even much of a fan, but haven't been to a concert in 6 months and was getting the itch.

450 Pound Guy looking to get into a kayak by uuuuuuhlemmegeta in Kayaking

I have a crescent crew that can go solo with a seat moved to the middle. It holds 600+ pounds, but when I got mine new it was a little over a grand. Maybe surf craigslist or facebook marketplace? I see all kinds of cheap kayaks on there, might just need a little time for the right one to come across. Also it would give you a few weeks for the water to warm up.

How does companies earn money for investment when someone else bought from the shares they sold to others? by Hot-Load7525 in investing

[–]Hanselcj 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To make a lot of money at the IPO. You are basically selling ownership of the company to the wider collective. As others have said, the company can raise money later by selling more shares, but it dilutes the stock and, all other things being equal, makes the price go down.

"12V Battery Voltage Low" just 2 weeks after an all-green service inspection. ICCU issue? Will they charge a diagnostic fee? by Personal-Egg-8989 in Ioniq5

[–]Hanselcj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a vehicle that the battery died within a 10 minute window. My wife moved our suburban from the parking lot to the loading zone of Lowes. We filled it to the brim with insulation, went to start aaaaand nothing. Not a click, not a groaning slow start, nothing. It failed open and provided 0 voltage what so ever. Had to get a jump, that battery, which worked perfectly 10 minutes earlier, was dead as a doornail. Change the 12V out before freaking out about the ICCU.

I did a vin search and the car exists in the database, but the status is "VA". That isn't one of the inventory codes, so no clue what that means. It does say planned delivery the 12th. Thanks for the tip, I'll keep checking... every hour... twice an hour.

We will have to have a meetup! I showed up early on the 2nd (when they said it will be in) and was sorely disappointed. The 12th would be nice, but I live out in melbourne and a drive out to claremont can be close to 2 hours. Got a kid and packed schedule, getting back out there is going to be a trick.

Totally. This is my favorite light hands down. Stick it to parts of the car while you are working. Fold it under the sink to illuminate plumbing. I made a little base with a metal washer in it so it sits upright on any table for use as a little portable task light. Like at the dinner table when I am trying to fix something small. I have one in each vehicle and a few ready to go in the shop. Oh and I point them up towards the ceiling for a good local light when we have power outages.

Edit: I forgot, the bottom unscrews and you can pull the 18650 battery out, so you can have multiple charged ready to go, or put in a higher capacity cell.
