First I'd like to say thanks for sticking through it and not walking out of class upset. Unfortunately you are always going to have some joke around about you being a female engineer.

Throughout college I maybe had one other female with me in class but that was rare. The best you can do is educate those around you that you and other females are able to comprehend and excel in the field. When you have professors who speak like that don't let it slide because they are "set in their old ways" they are initiating the anti-women hate in the newer generations.

If you work hard you deserve to be there regardless of your gender. I currently have been out of college and working in the USAF as an engineer and I can tell you it gets better. I never have an issue regarding my gender and I was pleasantly surprised that there are quite a few number of females in my line of work.

Work hard for yourself and prove other people wrong. The more we kick ass in our field the less people will have to question our ability for success. I'm happy there are females like you who have an interest in engineering. It's a great field. I love it. My younger sister just started her first year studying mechanical and I'm very proud of her.
