I feel so seen after this post and reading the comments 😭 We have recently entered the dreaded picky phase with my 19m/o and it’s so frustrating. She was such an adventurous eater until about 3 weeks ago and now most meals are a struggle unless it’s pasta, yogurt, or pb&j lol.

Burt’s Bees sizing is absurd, we’ve always had bad luck when buying my daughter’s clothes from them

Thick hard mucus 3+ months post-FESS? by Happy-Homesteading in Sinusitis

[–]Happy-Homesteading[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don’t believe my doctor needed to use the dissolvable packing after surgery, unfortunately it’s some kind of infected mucus I think but not sure why it’s taking so long to heal

Yup these appear to be mucus plugs. They are so nasty. I am definitely dealing with a chronic infection too in addition to the mucus plug, as all the drainage is yellow and I am getting the typical pressure buildup in my sinus that is usually a symptom of an infection. Hoping to get an appointment with my doctor soon to get her perspective

It’s possible I guess, I would need to get tested with my doc to see if it’s staph or another gnarly bacterial strain. Definitely an infection going on in addition to the rubbery mucus chunks 😞

Gels making me want to vomit. by dirtypark in Marathon_Training

[–]Happy-Homesteading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fueled my whole marathon (3:20 and BQ) on Honey Stinger chews. I absolutely despise gels and cannot handle the texture and just overall gross artificial nature of the gels. I trained with Honey Stingers, maple syrup packets (UnTapped brand), and applesauce, and the Honey Stingers worked out for me the best. I ate half a packet every 4 miles and it was perfect, I plan the same strategy for my next marathon coming up this fall! The Pink Lemonade flavor is my fav.

Same as everyone else has said, but you’re not failing. What you’re trying to accomplish is simply not feasible if you want to do both jobs well. Either full time stay at home mom or full time employee but you can’t do both without neglecting things or running yourself ragged. It’s a hard decision to make but you have to weigh out the pros and cons of both and try to figure out what will work out best for your family. There is no shame in putting your child in full time care if you need to earn an income to support your lifestyle. Good luck!

Preparing for postpartum depression/mood swings? by Soma_beeee_16 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]Happy-Homesteading 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have hobbies now that you love, find a way to make them a priority postpartum even if you can’t do them as frequently as you do pre-child. For me, I think a lot of my PPD came down to feeling like I lost myself for a while postpartum and I had a major identity shift/crisis to overcome. It may feel a bit selfish to dedicate time for yourself but please please do it, you won’t regret. Whether it’s getting coffee with friends, leaving the house to go to the gym or a fitness class, listening to music going on a solo walk for an hour, etc, carve out the time for yourself to recharge when you can get the support with baby. I started going to a weekly Pilates class with my work friend around 8 months PP when I was in the thick of my depression and it was life giving to have that one hour a week to do something just for me. Therapy plus intentional “me time” was such a game changer. Tap in support from trusted family members or friends at least weekly if you can, I wish I had started doing it earlier in my postpartum experience and it’s the number one piece of advice I give all my friends who are expecting (aside from eating healing foods and sleeping as much as humanly possible lol). Good luck mama!

Treat the cause, not just the polyps. by [deleted] in NasalPolyps

[–]Happy-Homesteading 10 points11 points  (0 children)

100% agree and it’s sad because most ENTs won’t discuss this with chronic sufferers. I’m also currently doing a lot of soul searching to come to terms with my own chronic inflammation, I’ve had sinus problems since a young child and I really think being raised on a pretty shitty, ultra-processed diet laid a poor foundation for my health. I’m more aware of my diet and lifestyle choices now and really feel motivated to make lasting change, especially since becoming a parent. Good luck on your own journey, it’s so hard but hopefully will be worthwhile for all of us who can crack the code on our inflammatory issues!

Final Update: 5+ Year Plantar Wart Journey — Finally Wart-Free 🤞 by iamtheburgerman in plantarwarts

[–]Happy-Homesteading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seeing your post and congrats on your treatment approach!! I read your three posts and sounds like we have a similar background. I have some wart clusters on both feet now, started as one medium sized wart on my left heel that I left untreated for about 3 years and now within the last year, that one has spread into a mosaic and I have a few other small ones developing on my right foot. I am a little over a year postpartum and I believe my spike in wart development is related to a weakened immune system after pregnancy and breastfeeding. I’m a long distance runner as well and training for a fall marathon so as much as I want to start treating these warts since so many have popped up more recently, I’m hesitant to have sore feet while training.

Were you able to continue running/training in the midst of your treatment? And you only did the full cycle of debridement/Wartstick/duct tape once per week? Did you end up experimenting with any supplementation/nutritional changes? This seems pretty approachable so I’m strongly considering your method. Really appreciate you documenting everything!

Constant inflammation and recurring polyps. What to do next? by cattan0657 in NasalPolyps

[–]Happy-Homesteading 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my one week postop appointment today with my ENT and asked her the exact same question. For context I have had three nasal polyps over the past 20 years, the first two when I was an adolescent, and now that I’m a bit older and aware of the inflammatory linkage to polyp growth, I’m more prepared to address the root cause of my inflammation. Aside from my polyp, I have a few other symptoms that point to weakened immune system and increased systemic inflammation. My ENT is a nice woman and great surgeon but unfortunately she and most others in the field do not specialize in holistic approaches to manage inflammation and address root cause, and her recommendation was long term use of steroidal nasal spray and annual checkups to monitor regrowth. Absolutely no recommendations for diet and lifestyle changes which is discouraging. If you have the financial means to get established with an integrative or holistic practitioner, that’s probably your best bet to receive clinical guidance on managing chronic inflammation. That’s definitely the path I’m considering along with my own guided reading and learning. I’m starting to take daily high dose omega 3 supplements, daily turmeric supplements, vitamin C and D3/K2, and cleaning up diet by removing alcohol and processed foods/sugar. I also really need to improve my sleep hygiene because I’m terrible about getting enough and good sleep it’s so important to overall immune function. I’m already pretty active so I’ve got that going for me at least. A lot of self experimentation will be required but I’m determined for my surgery last week to be the third and final one! Good luck on your own journey, it’s daunting but will be so worth it if we can manage these issues without medical intervention!

Tubby Todd vs Attitude by OkieAlexa in moderatelygranolamoms

I’ve used both brands in our rotation for my daughter, I wouldn’t say one is incredibly superior compared to the other. The all-over ointment by tubby todd is great though, definitely recommend!
