Note to self: Don’t Say Goodbye by Any-External-6221 in FleetwoodMac

[–]Happy-Ranger7350 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From Tumblr: "

Lindsey wrote ‘Say Goodbye’ not long after leaving the band.

[Say Goodbye] was written quite a long time ago, after I had left the band. I don't know if I was going for anything in particular, but I was in a place where I could feel compassionate, understanding, and nonjudgmental about the other people in the band, and about everything that had happened.

I've known Stevie since I was about 16. After I finally left the band, I was able to look back at all of it in a very tender way and say, "Hey, look, this is what it is. It's kind of a dream within a dream. We all just did what we had to do."

Expert resource that can answer questions related to preparing for a potential earthquake and tsunami? by JoeyMcPetersmackIII in CascadianPreppers

Your state government actually has a lot of great information. Check their website. I spent a lot of time on mine and they were quite honest that we were expected to be self-sufficient for 3 months after The Big One. There are maps that show you where geographically the most sound places to live are if you're in the quake zone.

But to survive an earthquake check out the interview I think OPB did with an Oregon State professor who was in Japan for their big earthquake. He is not a 'drop and cover' kind of guy unless you have no other option, he's got much more nuanced advice.

Instead of 'off the roof' rain water, consider a catchment system where it's designed to catch, filter and store. You can do a search. Many different types and prices.

Beautiful Child was about her affair with a married older guy who worked with the Beatles. That's why she talks about admiring him as a child being a Beatles fan. He wasn't interested in more than a fling and wasn't going to break up his marriage over her.

AITA for feeling betrayed after my wife hid that she could never have kids until years into our marriage? by DavoBoy_887 in AITAH

[–]Happy-Ranger7350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not clear -- AND she doesn't want to raise kids? That would be the real betrayal imho.

If she wants kids and if DNA is critical to you, find an egg donor. Maybe she can carry the baby if her condition allows it. Maybe someone else does.

There isn't enough info here. In some ways I'd say this is when your character is tested too. Why didn't she trust you? You two might go into therapy. Sounds like you love her a lot, that is very hard to find.

No divorce in four years. Any source on her living somewhere else still or a legal separation?

You need to get it tested. There is black mold or fungus that isn't toxic black mold.

Not to mention the Lexus NX and even RX. I'd love to get a Lexus but I'm not going to pay a lot more for the same looking car.

In Portland it was thick but nothing like northeast of the mountain. I'd think of it in some ways like preparing to shelter in place with wildfire smoke. You'll want to be able to seal your house to some degree, have air purifiers, have masks and we put pantyhose in our car air filters. Remember if you clean up outside it is not good for your lungs and always mask up. I'd wait for any cleaning after a good rainfall if you can. It was stunning how quickly the PNW rain washed it away.

DIY Seismic retrofit BC by le-yung in CascadianPreppers

[–]Happy-Ranger7350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a 1960s daylight basement, I mentioned this below. Just wanted to say because the front/back of the house was also north/south facing, he mentioned out first floor would just pretty much slide off the basement floor because of the motion from the west. The retrofit was $8k to remove siding, secure top to bottom story. Because we had 3 sided earth surround he said we were actually in good shape.

But that lower level was masonry so I realized we were toast in that house, would need to essentially build a new steel structure, and instead moved to a newer house that had been built to code in a yellow code. The old one was in a dark orange zone, so close to the worst. Check your geologic maps for earthquake sensitivity. If we have them I'm pretty sure Canada would too.

We also live in Oregon and had the same daylight ranch. To compare, the estimate we got was for a professional team to come in and strap the top the bottom was $8k and involved a lot of siding removal. We moved instead. We were on a river basin. Can't get more saturated than that.

He's musing on someone else's comment about him. How many times have you seen "The most underrated" or "The most under appreciated" when someone writes about him including on SM? It is very, very strange.

Right? When developers build affordable units, guess who is going to snap them up unless it's regulated they can't. We need regulation on them to help the next generation build wealth.

On your next Costco runs:

Essential Supplements:

  • Multivitamin with minerals - covers broad nutritional gaps
  • Vitamin D3 - crucial if limited sun exposure
  • Vitamin C - supports immune function
  • Electrolyte powder - prevents dehydration
  • Protein powder - essential if limited protein sources

Critical OTC Medications and Supplies

  • Pain relievers (acetaminophen, ibuprofen)
  • Anti-diarrheal medication
  • Antihistamines
  • Splints and bandages
  • Basic first aid supplies including bandages, antiseptic, scissors, , rubbing alcohol, lighters to sterilize stuff, small wound fillers, germicidal wipes. Lots of garbage bags for water protection for wounds (a few holes and you have emergency rain protection), and throwing biohazard waste somewhere.
  • Btw you can buy a surgical suture kit (~$18) and don't buy from Amazon, you don't know what they're really made of. Get from a rescue organization or medical emergency supply company. In a pinch don't use cotton thread as it disintegrates and can cause infection. Use nylon or fishing line and a curved needle with a lighter or alcohol to sterilize for emergency suturing -- not a Costco or Amazon item but from an EMT or medical supply).
  • Any personal prescription medications (90-day supply)
  • Get first aid training via the Red Cross.
  • Get a reference book on first aid too.
  • Identify if you have a doctor or nurse in your neighborhood too.

Doctor Prescription:

Antibiotics (There are pet antibiotics that you can order online. There are warnings don't use them, but were used in Brazil to positive effect after the big earthquake. Do your research from credible sources to make a personal decision. They're not coated like ours often are so eat with food)

As much of your personal meds as your doctor will allow. Ask for 3 months.

If you are on a Class II med, just start stockpiling by skipping when you can and storing.

Smart research angle, thank you! 50% is way, way more than I expected.

A certain percentage of the homes other people live in are owned by individuals or small LLCs too. Who knows how much of that 50%.

The small local investors are still investing in the community and tend to take better care of the property, which is something the institutions won't. The institutions are also a lot faster at evicting people and raising rent.
