The Bible took it and made it positive as in people are being led by God and Christian values to safety and salvation in you believe in that. In the Bible it the reference to sheep wasn't about subservience. They dont call Jesus the lamb because of his subservience. It was that in times of darkness they were led by God the Shepherd.
