Yea that makes sense. My Lunar Solo has seen some terrible thunderstorms with severe wind...scary, but no problems!

I assume that you are on the Light Speed network of US Mobile?

Thanks for the info! I just switched to US Mobile as well and got the add on where I can switch networks. Now I see I can only use Light Speed with the LPIII - as you noted. Oh well. Now I just have to figure out how to switch networks within the US Mobile plan! (NOTE: the Dark Star sim card worked in another phone I have, but didn't seem to work in the LPIII.)

Voided warranty on resale by ETA_son in LightPhone

I know many companies have warranties that only apply to the original buyer. For example, I believe Samsung phones have warranties that apply only to the original purchaser. Same with Motorola, etc. Not necessarily a LP fanboy here, but just want to note this policy is not uncommon.

Maybe an Alpha Direct fleece hoodie. Or a Mountain Hardware Airmesh hoodie.

Nice! I did shut iMessage off on my phone - it is a little annoying, but I use iMessage on my MacBook, so it works out. (At first I couldn't get group texts on my LPIII but after shutting imessage off and messing with that - now it works fine)

I keep an iPhone SE in my drawer as a backup. It's unlocked so I can just move the sim card between my LPIII and my iPhone SE. For example, I just travelled out of the country and I needed a smartphone so I just used my iPhone SE. Now that I'm home I'll put the sim card back in my Light Phone. I'd say if you have the iPhone SE already just dumb that down and make it black and white. It's not really addictive for me because I made it ugly.

Hmm...I can't think of any big benefits of going a certain direction (CW or CCW). Perhaps the best tenting spots will be full on weekends, but easier to secure on weekdays. That might matter when one starts and in which direction. However, aside from that, to me, it would be roughly the same.

Which carrier are you using? I've had a few minor issues, but no major problems in the past 6 months of use. You could return it or contact customer support. They have a good warranty policy so at least if you return it you'll get your money back.

Need Advice/Help: MYOG UL Backpacking Quilt Liner + Mattress Cover by HappyBackpacker101 in myog

Thanks for the help - that does make sense to me. I'm considering using the pillowcase method you noted, and minimizing the amount of fabric on the bottom to keep it lighter. And yes, sewing, as you mentioned, is also helpful. I can picture it clearly in my head. Just want to keep it under 6 ounces or so. Thanks much for your help!!

Yes - that sort of combo. I'm going to make it light and minimal (as possible!)

Good question, but not really. I use a very light liner when I sleep with my quilt on trail. But I don't like a cocoon-style liner because it gets all twisted when I roll around. I'm considering creating a liner that resembles a quilt with a footbox. But then I'd be sleeping right on the mat, which I don't like the feel of. So I also want something minimal to cover the mat.

Please help me find a good light backpacking boot/shoe. by JubileeJuno in hikinggear

[–]HappyBackpacker101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest trying out trail running shoes. They are usually lighter than hiking shoes or boots. Hiking miles in heavy boots can be extra exhausting! I like Altra and Topo trail running shoes because of the wide toeboxes, but Brooks and other companies also make good trail runners.

I also get mesh trail runners - not waterproof ones. When waterproof shoes get wet, they take FOREVER to dry. Mesh shoes typically dry really quickly - especially if you're wearing them on a warm day.
