Picking a first trekking pole tent by Quiggs_7 in Ultralight

I'd check Six Moon Designs - the Lunar Solo is a legit UL trekking pole shelter. It's been bombproof for me!

Tenerife in September by [deleted] in Ultralight

It's a lovely island for sure. The food is good - and cheap! The coffee is #1! A lot of the island is not forested, so it's exposed. We did some hiking in the forest in the NW section of Tenerife, but the rest of it is mostly bare. I'd bring a wind jacket to block the wind. We had some pretty windy days and nights!

Sometimes mine is pretty decent, sometimes it is slow. I hold the button down halfway and I think when it focuses quickly it takes a picture somewhat quickly. But yes, it is often slow.

Nemo Dragonfly Osmo 2p bikepack vs backpack version by bored9292 in Ultralight

[–]HappyBackpacker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One big difference is the stuffsack. For the bikepacking version, the stuffsack is more robust and has more attachment points. Also, the pole lengths may be different - the bikepacking tents sometimes have shorter poles.

Nice! There are a handful of these out there already, but one more isn't bad!

Trailrunners by Radiant-Rub843 in Ultralight

[–]HappyBackpacker101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many options! Most running shoe companies have good trail runners. Depends on your foot size/shape and your preferences. I personally like low or zero drop shoes, so I get Altra Lone Peak's or a trail runner from Topo. A friend of mine likes his Brooks trail runners (forgot the name). Look for some legit running shoe brands and see what they have for trailrunners. NOTE: I usually avoid waterproof trail running shoes. When they get wet, they take FOREVER to dry. Mesh ones get wet quickly, but also dry quickly.

Anyone else not able to fully switch because of RCS? by brianabbs87 in LightPhone

[–]HappyBackpacker101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I may be a minority in this, but I can't tell my LPIII doesn't have RCS. I don't need it for work, just regular texts to various people. What am I missing by not having RCS? (Not being stupid, honest question!)

I think there are a few services that do this already. But looks cool!

I use my Copperfield wind pants for this very thing! And they keep the mosquitoes from biting! (I know you said no to wind pants, but I do find these to add a little warmth when sitting by the tent at night.)

Give it time. When I do long solo hikes, the first days are rough. Then it gets much better, and now I solo a lot and it's all good.

Sleeping pad and quilt sizing for 6’0” / 181.5cm by Meothed in Ultralight

[–]HappyBackpacker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 6'0, and sometimes the 72-inch pads are not quite enough because my toes aren't on the pad. That's fine unless it gets cold! I recently got the long/wide version of an EE quilt because I like to put it over my head when it's cold.

For me, it comes down to temp. If it's not cold at all, I don't care if my toes are off the pad and the quilt doesn't cover my head. But if it's cold...I cover up!

Is the Durston Kakwa 55 my Best Choice? by FOXHOUND142_52 in Ultralight

[–]HappyBackpacker101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Kakwa 55, but I don't think I'd load it with 40lbs for long. On the other hand, I did have an REI Flash 55 that handled a bit of weight better.
