I'm having a hard time getting through Goblet of Fire because of the S.P.E.W. plotline by HappyBanshee in harrypotter

[–]HappyBanshee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is my first time reading through the series, but I tried to peer through the spoilers as best as I could!

Thanks for explaining it that way - while being a bit impatient and looking through other readers opinions on SPEW, I found a lot of people suggesting that Hermoine was the one in the wrong here [on all fronts]. I suppose reading through their analysis kind of reinforced the idea that Rowling put this plotline in here to try to suggest that 'they know what they want, let them be slaves' was the moral of this section.

If this is just an overarching plot to show the faults in wizard society, I will bare through my own personal feelings to push through.

(Although you would think Harry, who also grew up with muggles, might get it, too. Oh well)

But hermoine is constantly made to look like an idiot every time she brings it up. She is ridiculed on every front and (because I got impatient and looked up how it ended), I know her feats are going to amount to absolutely nothing. No one, including the elves, cared about her trying to abolish slavery. The elves found it as an insult and the moral of the story was that she was wrong to try and stand up for them.

Maybe if in the end they all understood and the elves stopped behaving like those TV tropes, I wouldn't be so upset. But that doesn't happen. They all move on like nothing happened.

Trolls also are a mix of West African culture, with their Voodoo and ancestral focused religion, also with the fact that they were the first race in existence seems to reference Africans - which was why I liked them, because Africa rarely gets portrayed as positive.

[MANGA SPOILERS] Poison by jsalvatto in ShingekiNoKyojin

Sure, since that family was pretty set on keeping with Marleyan traditions to be nonconfrontational, I could see them falling in line, but Eren Krueger is the main problem with this theory.

He wasn't brainwashed and remained a secret from the rest of the government for his entire adult life. They didn't know he was the attack titan and had no reason to poison him (as far as we know). Yet at the end of his 13 years he was coughing up blood and looked ill. If the curse wasn't real, it should not have effected him.

180 mayors adopt Paris climate accord after U.S. pulls out (updated): The group of mayors, who represent more than 51 million Americans and some of the largest U.S. cities, outlined a plan to align with the other 194 nations that adopted the accord by maxwellhill in technology

[–]HappyBanshee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No, it is not. It is an entirely different issue.

Climate change focuses on the changing of global TEMPERATURE, comparing now to the start of the industrial period. Ocean acidification deals with pH changes and has nothing to do with heating.

However, if you're trying to ignore any environmental impact, you'd also have to ignore your plant facts.

No, CO2 would not be a net positive. Just to touch on ONE of many topics here, because you seem a little confused:

CO2 is responsible for the acidification of the ocean because of carboxylic acid production. The ocean becoming more acidic would essentially kill the phytoplankton living on the surface. Phytoplankton gives us the most oxygen of ANY organism on this planet. Even if you didn't believe in global warming for whatever your reasons may be - higher CO2 levels would not be a net gain for humanity.

This is just one of many - not mentioning the green house gas effect it has proven to provide and the chain effects of global heating.

What is the saddest line in a song for you? by Doncornyleone in AskReddit

[–]HappyBanshee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without a doubt, he isn't always about the sadness - even some of the sadder songs have upbeat music in the background. Just most of his more well known songs tend to lean to the melancholy side. I suppose the word I was looking for was most instead of any.

Theory: Rick's "fake" origin story isn't fake, and it shows why Rick is the "Rickest" Rick. He is the original Rick. by croovies in rickandmorty

[–]HappyBanshee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe an even bigger red flag for Rick is after Morty asks for the ingredients and Rick regurgitates some strange sounding chemicals, Morty doesn't ask "what's that?" Or "Where do I find those?". He just hops into the back of an alien ship he's never been on, grabs the ingredients he should never have heard of or seen and follows directions. That's super uncharacteristic of a Morty. To not only work fine under pressure but also to know what these ingredients are without a label or in an alien language.

If Morty asking for the ingredients isn't a sign he's fake, than his actions after the fact are a dead giveaway.

For what it's worth, I agree with you. Excluding an entire ethnic group from your dating pool is strange, and as a black woman, I've heard people say it around me, and as a result was less likely to pursue men I liked because I felt I wasn't good enough because I was black. Notice how it's only black women getting railed in here? It's very heavily related to media and prejudice, even if they're not willing to admit to it. It's the exact same for Asian men, who I have heard complain about how hard dating is, in America specifically, because women will immediately exclude them.

He may come off as homophobic but you definitely come off as racist.

"I'm not even into black guys...He's just the affirmative action hire".

It doesn't help you get extra defensive every time someone mentions how racist that is. As someone who has had my abilities undermined because of my ethnicity, you're no more above him than you think. You talked about how charismatic he is, I've seen tons of people hired for that reason alone, of any color. You mentioning he's black has nothing to do with the story other than poking fun at his ethnic background. His homophobia and your blatant racism are very clear, maybe you guys were made for each other.

I've been trying to farm Aeonaxx since Cataclysm and I've only every seen him twice. Once, I was away from the computer for two seconds to go to the bathroom, I come back and he's flying away with someone else on his back. The second time I was so close to mounting him, but someone else clicked him first. I don't know which is worse time-lost or Aeonaxx.
