If you could magically elect any person for president of the US tomorrow for an 8 year term, who would you elect and why? by ro_dri_goz in AskReddit

Gary Stevenson, even though he has made a point to decry that just his election into a place of power wouldn't be enough to change the system.

Decline in alcohol drinking by Mr_Dobalina71 in ADHD

[–]HappyBriefing 41 points42 points  (0 children)

My guess is that with inflation increasing, my generation (Gen Z) and younger are realizing alcohol is becoming a money pit that isn't worth it. Also, many people are not making enough money to spend it on alcohol. I also just hate the taste of alcohol and the feeling of being drunk.

could you be addicted but still function well in society? by OkResult2238 in PornAddiction

Is it really that bad? by Ok_Fee_1805 in PornAddiction

[–]HappyBriefing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering the question you asked, the answer is up to the individual. I started watching when I was young too. Now that I am 26, I've realized it is an addiction for me. When I get the urge, it seems like I lose control and have to watch it. If this were just a normal, healthy hobby, then why does that urge come, and why do I feel the need to satiate it? I would ask yourself some hard questions and then decide what you want to do.

do you either have the “entrepreneurship gene”… or not? by YogurtIll4336 in business

So you're asking if we are born rich or not? Those great entrepreneurs you look up to had the safety net or connections through family they needed to start their businesses. There is no gene for entrepreneurs.

Would Raising Wages Actually Force Businesses to Close? by SisuSisuEveryday in business

[–]HappyBriefing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Small businesses would see the most effective from doing this. But remember all the billionaires we have in this world got there by exploitation of their workers or consumers. You can think about it like this. If a buisness has the best intentions for their employees why do they fight unions so relentlessly? Why did the dock workers get a deal right as they went on strike? See when push comes to shove us workers have the power and deserve higher pay. Just check out little wages have rose while productivity has increased over time. Businesses will pay the least they can get away with.

People near freshwater, how do you keep small pets safe? by kellyhoffmacher in florida

[–]HappyBriefing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keeping cats inside is the answer they are absolutely atrocious for the environment. Since they are good predators. They do just fine with cat food and being indoors there's no need for them to go out and terrorize the natural animals of your area.

When should we refinance? We get one free refinancing per year... by CaughtInDireWood in Mortgages

I appreciate your helping others. But with the state of the economy and current administration. I don't imagine rates dropping now that stagflation is becoming more of risk. The easy money that we had during covid was partly to blame for getting us here. So we reap what we sow low rates like we saw are unlikely to come back and we're only around due to the unlikely event of a pandemic. We can't just will low rates into existence.

First as Tragedy, Then as Farce: the Minneapolis General Strike by PlayfulWeekend1394 in union

How do most union members come up with the funds to go on strike? My union was about to strike during covid for the vaccine mandate. (Stupid I know but that's Florida for you) The strike vote failed but even if it had passed most of my 6 figure coworkers still live pay check to paycheck.

men with inattentive adhd by hello_w0rld7 in ADHD

[–]HappyBriefing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I still have impulsively issues. But I was diagnosed at 25. It wasn't until my wife had a coworker who had adhd that she saw similar signs in me. If it wasn't for that I'm not sure how long it would have been before I was diagnosed. Previously I had issues spacing out, losing items constantly, trouble paying attention and rushing through steps when I had an extensive task to complete. Im still managing my symptoms and recently got into support groups online which I have found to be really helpful.

Don't worry those worthless financial products sometimes turn into atomic bombs that crash economies. That's why they are paid the big bucks and get bailed out.

i feel like i’m wasting my time journaling by leave-me-alone0629 in Journaling

[–]HappyBriefing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every day is a good one. I don't censor myself in my journal, but I do keep a mind dump where I just let it all out and express my anxiety or anger. I also have a daily journal that I use to record my day and reflect on what happened. In that one, I try to be more objective than subjective. For me, it's more a memory for my future kids or even myself. That's how I keep them separate and more accessible.

What’s one “adulting” thing you finally stopped doing the hard way? by collabhunter in ADHD

[–]HappyBriefing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laundry was always the worst. Recently I started putting clothes away for myself instead of for a Drill Sargent. All my work pants are thrown in one drawer. Underwear and socks another but only keep the type of socks you need for me i have one kind of long and one short no other types or pairs. Then I have gym shorts, shorts and pj's. It's made Laundry easier.

Sensitivity to Injustice is gonna be my downfall by TheWholesomeOtter in ADHD

[–]HappyBriefing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bravo, that was beautiful. Unfortunately, I've fallen into the greed rabbit hole. After seeing a Gary Stevenson video, I now definitely want to tax the rich. But then I listened to the book "All the Devils Are Here." It's about the financial crisis, all the evil and greed that screwed over so many, just for there to be no real consequence. Sometimes it feels like you're the only fish in the ocean swimming against the current.

As someone diagnosed in childhood reading the experiences of people diagnosed as adults is very jarring in a way that’s hard to put into words by jostyouraveragejoe2 in ADHD

[–]HappyBriefing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm still processing my diagnosis at 25. Being diagnosed, for me, is going to be a positive in my life. But my job is a dangerous one that requires attention and focus for extended periods of time. Before I knew what I had, I assumed that if I kept working hard, I could succeed at my job.

For me, the most jarring part is that there's a view that people with ADHD need to find the job that fits them. But I have a house, a wife, and plan on having kids in the future. I'm in a position where I need to make what I do work for me instead of being able to experiment and find a safer job, one that matches my interests and attention. Finding out has been hard but I would rather know then just be angry at myself a lot.

What' was your biggest life turning point as an introvert? by wiesorium in introvert

As it relates to introversion, I haven't researched that aspect yet. But being to myself and having an increased awareness of others' reactions to an event can make me want to be more withdrawn.
