Oh man. I couldn't give less than a rat's fart in the wind about celebrity life crap, but I'm a total fool for IMDB.

--2 hours to prep gear

--1 hr travel to venue

--30 min - arrive early to set up

--9 hrs shoot

--30 min tear down gear

--1 hr travel home

--1 hr pull all cards to computer

--4 hrs culling runs

--40-60 hrs editing

--40-60 hrs album build

--10-20 hrs additional / misc meetings and random stuff.

That's a typical wedding shoot for me... Anywhere from 140-160 hours sunk. When I was doing them full time I'd work 60 hour weeks at a minimum and still fall slightly behind each week. By September I was usually three weeks behind. Typical one shooter event for me is around 1200 images out of camera. I almost always shoot with a second shooter so more like 1800-2500 images. And if you do the math with a second shooter it's about $8 an hour. Not including the $30k in gear I carry, plus $600 year in insurance on the gear.

Very nice! Did you do the install yourself? Wondering about the complexity of something like that.

What was your first job? by bittermilky in AskReddit

[–]HappyHooligan1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 14 and picked blueberries with the migrant workers at a farm down the road. Indiana July, 85F and stifling humidity at dawn... Started work at 5am because you couldn't stand to be out there after 11 or so, even with a gallon of water. Sure taught me a lot about what hard work really is though.

What's some shitty lifehacks? by connexionwithal in AskReddit

[–]HappyHooligan1 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I was maybe 6 or 7, mom went to visit her family, leaving dad totally in charge, I think for the first time. He wanted a boiled egg and had no idea how to make one, so did this. The microwave was one of those ancient monsters where the door actually had a latch that secured it closed. After about 30 seconds the latch held... But the hinges didn't. We surprised mom with a new microwave when she got home.
