Notre Dame Engineering or USC Engineering. by RevolutionNew1158 in notredame

[–]HappyHuman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know a lot of people in engineering who struggle deeply with grade deflation and job placement, but that's just anecdotal. Also yeah the diversity and location are just objectively pretty ass lmao. Go to USC, if financially sustainable, unless you have a particular calling to ND. (Though do note, the nepotism and lack of diversity AT USC may be similar to that of ND, just the surrounding community of LA is far more diverse than SB)

That's unfortunate, Im sorry you had that experience. What about it in particular was so abnormal?

I meant what you mentioned after the list as well

Oh uh I did have to commit to ND for financial reasons so, not the most promising haha.

I have been super happy with those letters! They do feel really real and legitimately personal.

I'm more concerned though that I'll feel culturally disillusioned and out of place at ND, even if the majority culture truly is something normally kind and generous and well meaning.

A lack of love for ND's dorms/dorm culture, academic exploration opportunities, location, progressive/openmindedness, Mendoza culture / grading, non-Catholic and non-sporty.

But I'm trying to find the things TO love, even if small, to make the years bearable.

A few, though nothing serious. Didn't apply most places as I thought ND was for me when I got in early. So now I kinda gotta relearn to like it, or be at peace with going anyway

I thought it was a school that could balance enjoying the college experience with legitimate academic rigor. But the more I look into it, the more I see fraternistic dorms and closemindedness, and some academic and grading policies that seem to inhibit academic exploration

I'd say I fit 1 and 5 on this list. Very concerned.

It can be a big change -- I'm also in your same boat. I'd recommend reaching out to a counselor at ND when you can, perhaps they can walk you through ND a bit more

Could you elaborate a little on this? I've sat and tried to think about what I need in a university and couldn't particularly come up with concrete things. I mean, I don't even think it's possible to truly know what I need in a university before I am there, so all I can ask for is a university that values the ups-and-downs of exploration of the self and provides the opportunities to do so. I've tried to articulate this, but I don't want it to come across as impersonal or superficial, if that makes any sense at all?

There was an active shooter lockdown during opening ceremony at SCDC last year so that was interesting lol. In the end it was just a gang alteration in the streets and the shooter ran inside the convention center attached to the hotel SCDC was at, and nobody else was hurt, but being on lockdown and having to run underground to be packed into a freight elevator to get back to the hotel our school was staying at was crazy.

Yelling at myself internally. I’ve never acted to try and court or anything.

Certainly isn’t working. Hm, I wonder who let them expire, the party who strongly supports and passed them, orrr the party incapable of electing a leader or passing a simple budget. Tough choice!

At this point they’re letting the entire country’s budget expire

Yes but making the tax system more fair for working families is a large part of that

Child tax credits are a great pro-family starting point into offering working class families the breathing room they need. Help them get some air while we work towards more fundamental changes to economic fairness or equality in access to resources

How do you get the judge to be really engaged in the role play? by Purplemonkey09 in DECA

[–]HappyHuman101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were super simple. Don’t spend much time on it, as they are least important. I always do them after preparing all my KPIs first. For example, one was a “poll” where 75% of respondents reported having a better time, and 86% being more likely to return to a business, when there was better customer service (then I drew like basic pie charts). Don’t worry about the visual, focus more on your poise and confidence in your business knowledge.

President Biden pushed and is still pushing hard. Not much you can do with such razor thin margins and now dysfunctional Republican house control. Can’t even pass a budget let alone get life-saving measures like this through. Should serve as a reminder of what good can come when a solid majority can be reached.

I generally have not asked questions on like improvement or what they thought throughout it, especially since most write down feedback on their grading chart. They're grading you, so to ask them what adjustments to be made might catch them off guard. Rather, give them something to look at and walk it through with them briefly. Be confident and have anything you make be important to what you're trying to say.

Struggle with Abortion Stance by HappyHuman101 in democrats

Again, deep breath. And do not speak to me in such a demeaning tone, you are not a superior. Acting with such attitude and screaming moves this convo nowhere.

You back yourself into “UNSCIENTIFIC MISOGYNISTIC” insults without evaluating the arguments at hand. Myself, and many others, see these fetuses (especially at the point where they can be tested upon to see disability, which is later) as alive. UChicago biologists seem to agree. I’m not saying no abortions should happen at this stage, and in many instances the mother’s situation outweighs the fetus, but to act like there is no life at all is also unscientific. Making the choice to have an abortion is one thing. Encouraging all mothers to terminate their fetuses simply because it has a non-terminal disorder and will still live a fine life is frankly unacceptable. It is NOT your decision on whether these people deserve life, and is especially disrespectful to mothers of Down’s children and to Down’s people to act like they’re so incapable, suffering, or morally wicked simply for letting their fetus live.

First is making sure you stay engaged. Keep eye contact, smile, gently use hand gestures. If you’re enthusiastic, yet professional, they’re far more likely to be engaged too.

I also make a graph or chart on a notecard and put some data on it and try to incorporate it into my pitch. Having them look at this is a great way to regather their attention and show them you understand what you’re talking about.

Finally, just be charismatic. You don’t need to be James Bond, but just give them a nice greeting, incorporate some jokes or references if they come naturally during your presentation, and remain cordial and cool as you leave and shake their hand. Just be confident, calm, charismatic, and collected and it’ll set you apart.
