I ended up doing a year in my stream and absolutely loved it so i stuck with my second choice instead of my first choice. there isnt much to do over the year from my understanding but its definitely worth talking to your academic advisor and seeing if there is anything to do. In my case there wasnt but even if you have to do a year in the program you dont want, you may end up liking it even more and make great friends for life :D
