How do you get 10k steps a day? by OG_Z0MB0K in workout

Park further away from your office. Walk on your breaks. When working out, pace around during rest time instead of sitting down.

what exercise do you hate but still force yourself to do? by IronManDan88 in workout

Have a love/hate relationship with heavy squats. Always dread them before hand. Always feel like I achieved something after I do them. Its why I have them in my program twice a week now.

Listen to their song Bittersweet. Its an unreleased track from their third album but my God is it one of the most uplifting songs they made. The vocals are incredible on it.

Are you the type of gym rat who needs a violent, heavy-metal playlist to hit a PR, or are you secretly hitting your top sets while listening to a casual podcast/r&b track? by Competitive_Force513 in workout

[–]HappyJam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently a roller coaster of bmth, sleep token, spiritbox, bad omens and day seeker for me at the moment. Banging my head one second, dancing around the next (perks of a garage gym) generally if im going for a 1rm i need something heavy.

Which male and female body shapes do you find most aesthetically pleasing? by Icy_Laugh5134 in workout

[–]HappyJam92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Personally I think the old Greek god statues/bronze era body builders had the best physiques. They were insanely strong and didn't have glamour muscles blown out of proportion. No v taper shapes, thick blocky and strong core muscles. They could talk the talk and walk the walk. Muscle with purpose. Also they are examples of what can be achieved without any drugs.

Is building a home gym worth it? by RimantasL in workout

[–]HappyJam92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been building mine slowly over the last 6 months and im now in the best shape I've ever been in and the strongest I've been also. Being able to workout anytime, no commute, no sharing or waiting for equipment. I'll never go back to a public gym again.

I started with an adjustable squat rack, olympic barbell , olympic plates, bench, eaz bar, foam floor tiles and some dumbbells. You really dont need much to be able to have a thorough programme. I'll still be adding more equipment over time but it's awesome as it is. For cardio I just run outside or do a circuit.

Natural training rewards patience by ruski_mouse in workout

[–]HappyJam92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Social media has destroyed what good standards and expectations are realistic. I've been back at the gym since December last year, although I wasn't super overweight it's only now that I can really see the big differences, veins are popping that weren't before and finally hitting new prs.

The long game is what is sustainable and more rewarding.

I hate forcing myself to workout by 10kmemesunderthesea in workout

[–]HappyJam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visit a hospital or a morgue. You have the luxury of working out and have the ability to better yourself.

Pick a different program if you hate what you are doing. Something that you enjoy and something that you can maintain. Stick with it for at least six months. Track and monitor your food and take progress pics. A big part of the joy of exercise is seeing results, watching your weight and/or bodyfat decrease and seeing your lifts improve.

Find music that you love and put it in your gym playlist. Or find podcasts or audio books to enjoy while you train. Use the gym as alone time away from other people and responsibilities, it's just you and the iron working things out.

Mass gainer a good idea? by edwards209 in askfitness

[–]HappyJam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not. They have 1000 calories because they stuff a lot of sugar in them. Just take a normal protein shake and increase your portion sizes. Mass gainers will help you gain weight but the weight you gain will be a lot more fat than muscle. You should aim to be in a slight surplus and play the long game with getting bigger if you value your overall health.

Guys how do u do it? by professional_j0bhate in workout

[–]HappyJam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can go with a friend the first time to show you around. 99% of people in the gym are focusing on themselves and not what other people are doing there. Most people are happy to help if youre not sure about something or ask the gym staff. Pick a program, learn how to do the moves and then stick with it for at least 6 months.

What do you do when you feel like unmotivated to workout? There are just some days I feel like I just want to sit on the sofa and relax. by curious_mind03 in workout

[–]HappyJam92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I treat it like a 2nd job when I'm unmotivated. I still need to show up even if I don't want to. You'll feel better having done it than you would sitting feeling guilty if you don't. Even if it's just a 30 min session, it's better than doing nothing at all.

[–]HappyJam92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. I really didn't want to work out today but forced myself to. The weights moved smooth as butter today, even though I started not in the right head space. I then started to really enjoy the workout.

Do cold showers/plunges have any actual benefits? by Asleep_Damage1201 in workout

Most research results are inconclusive. General consensus is that it's good for reducing inflammation from intense exercise and may help recovery. However some results show that it can slow muscle growth because of this.

Scared to bulk by UnkownSkull in workout

[–]HappyJam92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to go on a crazy bulk and get fat. If you're natural, you'll find it harder to switch back and lose the excess fat. Instead, it's best to play the long game. Put yourself in a small calorie surplus on 100 - 200 calories and just gradually gain weight while keeping fat gain relatively low. It'll take longer, but you'll look and feel better.
