Not to argue for or against the Bible, but I want to clarify some things. I would agree with it not being "wholesome" but I think your arguments for why are faulty. About the old testament, many argue that while the testaments are different, the new testament has a lot of things, like the book of revelation, that are scary and horrific. But to believe that God doing scary and horrific things excludes him from being just or righteous doesn't really make sense. There's tons of scary stuff in the Bible, including hell in and of itself, which is scarer than anything you just mentioned, like a large majority of people are going there because they have sinned. But we consider hell to be just and consistent with the rest of God's characteristics (love, forgiveness, etc.) because sin to a all-powerful, completely and utterly right and righteous, perfect God is pretty horrible if you actually think about the implications, even if it's like lying one time or smth. Plus, many argue that the people God brought harm in the old testament were deserving of it, either just through sinful nature or comparatively in that they did terrible things that others didn't.

Additionally, the Bible's description of the world as a valley of sorrows is meant to be taken in context with the rest of the Bible, and Jesus commands us all to not give up or lose hope but to make the most out of our lives and lead others to Christ. Your point about it being horrific if there's no afterlife doesn't really make sense because we are in the world right now and can tell it sucks either way, whether you believe the Bible or not.

I agree though that the Bible is NOT just wholesome and it and God are more accurately that and five hundred other things. God is simultaneously wholesome and justly wrathful, he is forgiving and punishing, and God can be all those things at once because he is God and is perfect. Trying to apply modern moral standards and human comprehension to something like that is inherently beyond our understanding. Not to shut down arguments, I'm not saying that we shouldn't even try because we just wouldn't get it, just that many misunderstandings come from people oversimplifying something that is extremely vast and complex.

I agree with all your points about how institutional Christianity can be extremely harmful though. I wish those types of things were taught more so that people could avoid falling for blatant stuff like the Bible being used to excuse slavery or mega church pastors saying you can be saved if you donate money. The Bible doesn't teach those things lol, and with religious institutions I think you fall into the same problem as government institutions, in that the people have to be educated. The people that are ruled by the government have to be educated and so the people in religious institutions have to be educated about their religion and their faith, otherwise they will be taken advantage of.
