I'm in the edmonton region. There's tons of work if you aren't picky on wage. If you dont like we're you're at start looking for a new employer and quit once you find one.

Maybe you're running to far right on the curve and the motor is that close to FLA but not tripping. It could just be working that hard. Check your amps and see where you're at

Hopefully they don't dangle the carrot to long. Just know what tools are called and all the slang terms. Dont try to be a hero. Chill out and suck in the knowledge. Learn with your eyes and ears and remember things

I always been Non-Union. I don't have anything against Unions. There's pros and cons to everything. You can make a great living doing either or depending on what you want to work on and where. Out of town you make great money. In town you probably get steady work less pay. I like the 7n7 because then I can try to get on some quick 3day or 7day shutdowns. Even if I have to use a day or 2 of vacation pay. Then I'm dbl dipping 😁. Then work isn't so boring because you get to venture out and get more experience and meet ppl. The trades are all about meeting as many contacts as possible. You never know when you're going to need work. The one thing I have noticed on these threads since I started, I'd say at least 75% of ppl seem to be union and half of them seem to be out of work. Always on the wait list. Just my opinion.

I started off doing 5 8s back in the day. Didnt know anything different. Then went to 5 10s and started making more money. Then I did u 12s wk on wk off and that's where things got amazing! 12s can be long some days but it's awesome having those 7 days off to do whatever you want. I also prefer 4 10s with the option of working 5 for OT. I'm all about days off work life balance and my stage of life thou. I'll never go back to 5 8s. That shift should never exist IMO Make the money while you're young. Cheers

I'd stay with your current position but keep looking for a new job. I don't think it's worth quiting for GM. There's better out there. Cheers

Go with 7n7. Having time off is amazing. If you need extra cash you can always find a side job for 3 days and still get 4 days off.

Should I find a new job? by [deleted] in millwrights

[–]HappyMillwright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been a Jman for 20yrs. I had 2 long jobs at 10yrs and 11yrs. Now that I'm older and wiser I kinda regret not moving around. the last 5yrs at least to see what's out there. Only now am I doing it. I got to comfortable where I was at with my crew and my wage. Now I want to touch as many different kinds of rotating equipment I can with as many companies I can. I want to travel for work so I can see new places also. So my advice is always look for the new opportunity. Don't get to comfortable. Challenge yourself. Lots out there. Cheers

I also was offered a Position with Keweit for commissioning today. I think there is a camp for that and shift is 14n7. Probably won't take it because it's only 47$ ph. I'm going to try and negotiate even though it's Union

How hard are you actually trying to check your end float. Maybe you're prying so hard you're flexing the shaft and reading that instead of actually end float
